Wingstop Now Open in Milpitas, California

National chicken wing chains continues to soar in Northern California

June 23, 2009 // Franchising.com // Milpitas, Calif. – Wingstop, the national chicken wing chain that sells one million wings daily, is now open in Milpitas, Calif. The restaurant is located at 80 North Milpitas Blvd. and owned and operated by franchisee Robert LaVigne.

The Milpitas restaurant is the latest Wingstop to open in Northern California, and though the country is in a recession, Wingstop is bucking the no-growth trend, particularly in California. Sales are as strong as ever, in fact, many of the chain's highest grossing restaurants are in Northern California.

"We're succeeding during a time when many restaurants aren't because Wingstop keeps it simple," said LaVigne. "We have a focused menu of great chicken wings and we put a lot of emphasis on our carryout service." LaVigne also owns and operates two additional Northern California Wingstop locations with his West Coast Wings business partners.

"It really means a lot to finally bring Wingstop to my hometown," said LaVigne. The Milpitas location, which officially opened in late spring, has been performing well, despite the economy. "We've already developed a strong customer base in Milpitas and are excited to be part of this community."

Wingstop currently has 87 restaurants open in California with another 75 under development.

Dallas-based Wingstop was founded in 1994 and began franchising in 1997. Today Wingstop has more than 650 locations open or under development nationwide. At a time when many chains are struggling, Wingstop has experienced positive comp stores sales for 23 consecutive quarters, and the company recently moved from #125 to #97 on Entrepreneur Magazine's "Franchise 500" ranking of all leading franchise brands worldwide.

About Wingstop

Wingstop offers restaurants with a nostalgic, aviation-themed atmosphere where the sole focus is on chicken wings. Wingstop features nine wing flavors, including Original Hot, Cajun, Atomic, Mild, Teriyaki, Lemon Pepper, Hawaiian, Garlic Parmesan, and Hickory Smoked BBQ. The wings are cooked-to-order and customers can also choose from homemade side dishes including fresh-cut seasoned fries, bourbon baked beans, pearl potato salad, creamy cole slaw, vegetable sticks, rolls and assorted dipping sauces. Wingstop recently received an American Business Award for Best Overall Company and was chosen Wing King at the 2006 National Buffalo Wing Festival. Troy Aikman, three-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame quarterback, has served as the chain's national spokesman since 2003.
