Candlewood Suites Introduces New York City's First Midscale Extended-Stay Hotel

New-build hotel near Times Square is the first of its kind in Manhattan, providing guests with an "apartment experience" at an attractive price in a prime location

August 06, 2009 // Franchising.com // ATLANTA - Start spreading the news - Candlewood Suites has arrived in New York City. As the city's first midscale extended-stay hotel, the Candlewood Suites is bringing a full-scale apartment experience at a midscale hotel price to business and leisure travelers at a prime location just one block from Times Square.

The Candlewood Suites New York City-Times Square provides a practical alternative to guests looking to stay in the epicenter of Manhattan. Instead of the smaller hotel rooms typically found in the city, the Candlewood Suites guestrooms are all studio suites with wide rooms, including a full kitchen with full-size refrigerator, stove top, dishwasher and microwave, and stocked with pots, pans, plates, glassware and utensils; comfortable recliner; large workspace with desk chair; and deluxe bedding. Unlike most New York City midscale hotels, the Candlewood Suites offers amenities typically found in apartment buildings, including a complimentary 24-hour fitness center, complete with cardio and weight machines, and complimentary onsite laundry for guests.

"Until now, guests looking for a midscale extended-stay property didn't have a hotel to suit their needs, even in the midst of one of the world's most well traveled markets, with nearly 300 branded hotels," said Robert Radomski, vice president, Global Brand Management, Extended-Stay Brands, IHG. "In today's economy, guests are increasingly looking for the comforts of home at a good value, and with the opening of Candlewood Suites, they now have that option in New York City."

Guests at the Candlewood Suites New York City-Times Square can take advantage of the just-like-home amenities available at all Candlewood Suites hotels, including complimentary high-speed Internet access and free local phone calls. Unique to Candlewood Suites, guests can also enjoy the convenience of the Candlewood Cupboard®, where a variety of beverages, breakfast items, snacks, frozen entrees and sundries can be purchased on the honor system at any time, and where guests can enjoy complimentary Juan Valdez freshly brewed coffee. Additionally, guests of the Candlewood Suites can visit the free Lending Library, where movies and music are available for use in guestrooms, which all feature a DVD and CD player.

Each of the hotel's 188 guest suites feature the brand's Comforts of HomeTM Bedding Collection with upgraded mattresses and box spring sets, mattress topper, fluffy duvet inserts and poly-cotton covers matching the hotel's color scheme, 250-thread count micro-check sateen sheets in "Candlelight", triple sheeting, contemporary cotton estate blankets, choice of three upgraded pillow types in firm, medium and feather and a decorative "Consider Us Home" pillow.

The Candlewood Suites New York City-Times Square is owned by M&R Hotel, LLC, and managed by Hersha Hospitality, under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group.

"We're excited to be the first Candlewood Suites to open in New York City and to serve as an ambassador of the brand to guests from all over the world," said Naveen Kakarla, executive vice president, Hersha Hospitality. "Candlewood Suites hotels are carefully designed to meet the particular needs of extended-stay travelers. Our guests will find that the design of our spacious suites and the hotel's amenities will allow them to live comfortably and keep a daily routine similar to that of home, whether they're in the city for business travel or a sight-seeing leisure trip."

The Candlewood Suites is conveniently located within walking distance to the Jacob Javitz Convention Center, Ernst & Young and Merrill Lynch. On average, 26 million people a year visit New York's Times Square, and the Candlewood Suites is surrounded by the city's biggest tourist attractions including Broadway, Rockefeller Center and the Empire State Building. The hotel is located at 339 West 39th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in midtown Manhattan, with LaGuardia (LGA) and JFK International (JFK) both less than 30 minutes away.
