Pizza Inn Opens Newest Restaurant in Spartanburg

Texas-Based Pizza Chain Brings Full-Service Buffet Restaurant to Area; Feeds Local Appetite with Specialty and Traditional Pizzas

December 17, 2009 // Franchising.com // The Colony, Texas – Pizza Inn, Inc. (NASDAQ:PZZI), an international restaurant recognized for its specialty and traditional pizza, pasta and salad offerings, announces the opening of its newest full-service buffet restaurant in East Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The new restaurant provides customers with a variety of handcrafted pizza, pastas, salads and desserts in a dine-in buffet format with delivery and carryout. The company popularized a unique crackery crust that is made from scratch everyday and has since become the signature product offering. Pizza Inn is also known for its assortment of Pizzerts®, a dessert pizza, as well as local pizza flavors available to consumers at their request. Over the years, product offerings have expanded but the company's commitment to the highest quality ingredients, the friendliest service and affordable pricing have remained unchanged.

"We're excited about our continued expansion throughout South Carolina, as well as the entire nation," said Charlie Morrison, CEO of Pizza Inn Inc. "It is a pleasure to provide our freshly made pizzas, pastas and other popular menu items to the local residents at affordable prices with the assistance of a long-time franchise owner."

The East Spartanburg restaurant is owned and operated by local entrepreneur Daven Acker. Owner of two additional Pizza Inn restaurants in the Greater Spartanburg area – one at 1517 East Main Street in Duncan and another at 1108 Asheville Highway in Spartanburg – Acker plans to open two more restaurants in the region over the next few years.

"Pizza Inn has been a hometown favorite because of its fresh product served in a comfortable, family-style atmosphere that customers have grown to love over the past 40 years in Spartanburg," said Daven Acker. "We pride ourselves in serving guests quality pizzas at affordable prices. They appreciate Pizza Inn as much as we appreciate their loyal business."

In an effort to further augment the company's national and local growth plans, Pizza Inn is seeking single and multi-unit franchisees, as well as area developers in select regions of the country. As a result, Pizza Inn recently launched a development incentive program to entice franchisees otherwise discouraged by the current credit market. The incentive program offers a 50 percent reduction in the initial Franchise Fee from $25,000 to only $12,500, a 50 percent reduction in royalties for year one from 4 percent to 2 percent and the same 50 percent reduction in royalties for year two, with years three and beyond at the standard 4 percent. This incentive applies to new construction of U.S. buffet restaurants only.
