Coaching for a Cause: Non-Profit To Fill the Gap between Expected Funds and Operating Costs within Six Months

With donations down and the need for services higher than ever, Ephesians Life Ministries aims at meeting its financial goals through a unique, global pro bono business coaching opportunity offered by ActionCOACH.

December 22, 2009 // Franchising.com // It is ironical how charitable giving goes down during a recession -a time when the need for many charities and non-profits is the greatest.

One such organization is Ephesians Life Ministries, a Christian counseling organization which helps clients recover from life-dominating problems, including addictions, as well as marital, spiritual, emotional and relationship problems, regardless of whether they can pay for the counseling or not.

"The economic downturn has put enormous pressure on our resources which are unable to meet the surge in demand," Executive Director Brena Gibson said. "The recession has led to more cases of anxiety, depression and marital problems to name a few."

The same is true for many other not-for-profit and charitable organizations.

It is for this reason that ActionCOACH, the world's leader in business and executive coaching launched Coaching for a Cause -a global pro bono coaching program to help the non-profit and charitable sectors raise their donations and funds within a six-month period starting October 1, 2009.

Top Business Coaches from around the world have pledged to donate coaching hours, valued at $1.8 million with the overall goal to raise at least $2.5 million in additional donations.

As Ephesians Life Ministries recently celebrated its 30th anniversary chronicling three decades of serving the community, it also signed up for pro bono coaching offered through the Coaching for a Cause campaign.

"This year marks our 30th Anniversary and also the first time we will experience business coaching," Gibson said. "ActionCOACH Angie Segal will be coaching us on a pro bono basis to help us meet the challenges posed by the economy and limited resources."

Segal who met Gibson at a networking event will coach the ministry on an average of five hours per month and help them close the gap between expected funds and operating costs, as well as help the Executive Director on her own time management and Board development skills.

"Too many people who need mental health services cannot afford them," Segal said. "I am passionate about coaching a worthy cause such as this as it allows them to further their mission."

To Gibson's relief, Segal will also coach her on balancing her act.

"Being the Executive Director of a very small organization, I often have to wear multiple hats," Gibson said. "Now with Angie's business coaching service, I will be able to get out of the daily admin tasks and focus my attention on more outreach and public speaking engagements to spread the word about our organization and increase fundraising."

Gibson believes Coaching for a Cause is a wonderful opportunity for non-profits and charities worldwide.

"I have networked with Executive Directors of other non-profits who are constantly struggling to do more with less," she said. "In such a scenario pro bono help in the area of business coaching is nothing short of a blessing."

Gibson's long-term vision for the Ephesians Ministry is to have the funds to be able to provide therapy to those who need help, even if they do not have the wherewithal to pay for it.

"Even people who have health insurance sometimes have such high deductibles that their insurance does not help them." she said. "Our aim is to be able to provide help to anyone in need of our services. While we are a Christian organization, we serve clients of all faiths and do not attempt to convert our clients.

Coaching for a Cause is an innovative, new program from ActionCOACH, the world's number one business and executive coaching firm that makes pro-bono coaching available to charities and non-profits worldwide.
