First Wyndham Grand in Hawaii Will be New, Oceanside Residential Resort

May 19, 2010 // Franchising.com // PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, part of the Wyndham Worldwide family of companies (NYSE: WYN), today announced that the brand's first new build project in Hawaii also will be the first to fly the Wyndham Grand® flag: a 322-unit luxury resort and residential development currently under construction on a 25-acre tract at Poipu Beach on the south shore of Kauai.

Koloa Landing at Poipu Beach Wyndham Grand Resort is owned by Poipu Beach Villas LLC, a Salt Lake City-based consortium, and is being developed in multiple phases. The general contractor is Layton Construction, also known locally as Resort Construction Managers, which has served the needs of commercial construction customers for nearly six decades. Azul Hospitality Group of San Diego, a hospitality management company specializing in full-service hotels and upscale resorts, will manage the property.

Construction began in June 2008. The project ultimately will include one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom luxury residences. Construction is expected to be completed on Phase One during the third quarter of this year, which the resort will celebrate with a grand opening. Phase One will include 85 luxury resort residences, two lagoon pools, fitness center and a dining and shopping marketplace.

"This will be an impressive addition to the Wyndham Grand Collection portfolio, which represents our most distinguished properties," said Jeff Wagoner, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts president. "We are committed to expanding the Wyndham brand to provide our guests with the broadest choice of high-quality vacation opportunities in some of the most popular destinations in the world."

Koloa Landing at Poipu Beach, a Wyndham Grand Resort, will offer luxurious resort amenities in a master-planned community, as well as shoreline access to some of the most popular beaches in Hawaii. Features will include a central pool with water slide, sand bottom area, cascading waterfalls and swim-through grotto, four lagoon-style pools, several hot tubs, a state-of-the-art fitness center, day spa, poolside bar and grill, covered parking and semiprivate elevators to each front door.

Interiors will include gourmet-style kitchens, Sub-Zero® and Wolf® appliances, granite countertops, spacious walk-in closets, exotic hardwood and natural stone flooring, central air-conditioning and state-of-the-art technology. In addition, each suite will include a custom furniture package with premium finishes, indoor and outdoor living spaces and floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading to spacious lanais, the Hawaiian term for terrace.

"Customers are still seeking thoughtfully planned, high-end vacation opportunities in desirable locations like Kauai's south shore, with luxurious resort amenities to complement their interests and lifestyle," said Kent B. England, president of Poipu Beach Villas, LLC. "We are delighted to add the Wyndham Grand name to this spectacular resort, which will create an exciting new destination in the highly popular Hawaiian market."

Ranked among the top five beaches in the world, Poipu Beach, which means "crashing waves" in Hawaiian, offers a moderate, year-round climate with average temperatures in the mid 70s to 80s. Other island attractions include the scenic Waimea Canyon and the breathtaking Na Pali Coast. Kauai offers fishing, kayaking, hiking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and whale-watching, among other island activities.

Koloa Landing is offering full ownership of these luxury residences with price ranges beginning in the low $900,000's to more than $3 million for the penthouses.

The resort will expand Wyndham Worldwide's presence in Hawaii, joining the Wyndham Vacation Resorts-Kona Hawaiian Resort and the Wyndham Vacation Resorts-Mauna Loa Village, both in Kailua-Kona on Hawaii's Big Island.

Guests will be able to take advantage of the Wyndham brand's guest recognition program, Wyndham ByRequest®, which offers complimentary benefits including free high-speed Internet access and choice of welcome snack and beverage. Wyndham ByRequest members also can earn Wyndham Rewards® points, which can be redeemed for free hotel stays, airline tickets, name-brand merchandise and dining and shopping gift cards, among other options. In lieu of points, members may elect to earn airline or rail miles with a variety of carriers.

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, LLC and its affiliates offer upscale hotel and resort accommodations throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, China and the Caribbean. All Wyndham hotels are either franchised or managed by the company or managed through a joint-venture partner.
