Jazzercise Posts Dynamic Start to New Decade

CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jazzercise, Inc. started the new decade with its most successful opening quarter in the company's 40-year history. Typically the busiest time of year for the fitness industry, Jazzercise posted more than $19.5 million in customer sales, which included a 23 percent increase in new sign-ups over the same timeframe in 2009. The company's January franchisee royalties of $1.4 million set a Jazzercise single-month record.

"As we begin our fifth decade in the fitness industry, Jazzercise continues to thrive," said company founder and CEO Judi Sheppard Missett. "We work together with our franchisees to deliver quality instruction; connect with our customers through a high-level fitness experience; and operate our business with superior creativity, execution and foresight."

Since 1994 Jazzercise has recognized and financially rewarded franchisees based on their gross revenues from the past fiscal year. In March 2010, Jazzercise honored nearly one third of its class owners with more than $1.8 million collectively, one of the largest franchisee rebates in company history.

Additionally, Jazzertogs fitness apparel (a division of Jazzercise) posted one of its highest volume shipping months in February, averaging more than $33,000 of merchandise shipped per day.

Jazzercise soared into the top 20 on Entrepreneur Magazine's prestigious Franchise 500 list for 2010, climbing 24 spots from last year, one of the biggest jumps of any company in last year's top 50. AllBusiness.com ranked Jazzercise third on its list of All-Star Franchises, up two spots from 2009.

Missett is optimistic that the company will sustain its momentum throughout 2010. The company is hosting three fitness conventions this year that sold out in record time; continuing its successful marketing relationship with spokesperson Cheryl Burke (professional dancer and two-time champion of ABC-TV's "Dancing with the Stars"); opening a new corporate Jazzercise Fitness Center in Carlsbad, Calif.; adding 46 International Quality Coordinators; implementing new technologies that will aid both franchisees and customers; and offering innovative new and current customer promotions that will add value, variety and quality to the Jazzercise fitness experience.
