Play It Again Sports and Bauer Hockey Announce Winner of Canada's Inaugural 'Practice of a Lifetime' Sweepstakes

Bowmanville, Ontario 14-Year-Old Win to Host Hockey Practice with Toronto Maple Leafs Defenseman Luke Schenn

June 03, 2010 // Franchising.com // BOWMANVILLE, Ontario - It's an experience few youth hockey players ever get to enjoy, but this summer Play It Again Sports and Bauer Hockey will turn dreams into reality with the inaugural 'Practice of a Lifetime.'

Announced today, Bowmanville, Ontario 14-year-old Owen Clarke has been named the winner of the 2010 'Practice of a Lifetime' sweepstakes. This year's promotion awards Clarke and 20 of his teammates the chance to take the ice with Toronto Maple Leafs standout defenseman Luke Schenn. The practice will be held soon after the NHL playoffs.

Clarke, a forward for the Clarington Toros Minor Midget A hockey team, is especially excited to talk with Schenn about winning gold at the 2008 World Junior Hockey Championships.

"Luke is one of the best young defensemen in the league! I can't wait for him to teach me and my teammates some NHL plays," Clarke said, who filled out the sweepstakes entry form while shopping for a new pair of Bauer Vapor 50 skates at the Courtice store he frequents with his parents. "I just filled out a piece of paper. I never thought I would be the lucky winner. This is going to be awesome."

Schenn, 20, joined the team as the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NHL draft, and was soon named "the human eraser" by ice hockey analyst Pierre McGruire for his defensive presence. His skills awarded him a spot on the NHL's 2008 - 2009 All-Rookie Team. Prior to reaching the NHL, Schenn's performance during the 2007 - 2008 season with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League landed him on the Western Conference Second All-Star Team.

"We are thrilled to partner again with Bauer Hockey for this exciting sweepstakes and to give the rare opportunity to Owen and his friends to practice with NHL pro Luke Schenn," said Pat Quinn, brand director of Play It Again Sports. "Thousands of youths submitted entry forms from our 40-plus stores throughout Canada. We were excited to see this response and can't wait to see the young players' faces light up when they skate with Luke."
