Smashburger Introduces Its "Better Burger" to Long Island, NY

Franchise Agreement Brings Popular Fast-Casual Restaurant to the New York City Area

NEW YORK --(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Smashburger, a fast-casual "better burger" restaurant has signed an agreement with ISK Systems, LLC, owned by industry veteran Irwin S. Kruger, to operate 20 restaurants in Long Island. Their first restaurant is slated to open towards the end of 2010.

The deal with ISK Systems, LLC will establish Smashburger in the New York City area and brings the number of signed franchise agreements to more than 375. Smashburger will have approximately 100 stores in more than 16 states by the end of 2010. With a combination of corporate, franchise and joint venture partnerships, Smashburger has created a strategy that allows the Denver-based company to grow quickly and deliver its promise of a "better-burger" that maximizes guests' time and dining experience.

"Entering into a critical and visible marketplace like New York City is a milestone for Smashburger," says Smashburger CEO Dave Prokupek. "Irwin's three-plus decades of experience operating McDonald's restaurants in Manhattan and his innovative approach are perfect for establishing Smashburger in New York."

Named for the cooking method used to create the perfect burger, Smashburgers are a one-third or half-pound ball of 100-percent—fresh, not frozen, Certified Angus Beef smashed on a flat grill to sear in the juicy flavors. Smashburger also serves up delicious Smashchicken sandwiches, Smashdogs and Smashsalads, with sides like veggie frites and rosemary and garlic-seasoned Smashfries. Burger lovers can pair their meals with beer, wine, Häagen-Dazs shakes and root beer floats.

"We are excited to work with Irwin Kruger at ISK Systems, LLC and bring Smashburger to New York," says Smashburger Founder Tom Ryan. "Irwin and I have worked together at McDonald's and I know his extensive operations experience will be a great asset for Smashburger as we introduce our unique concept and 'better burger' to the Long Island community."

"I was immediately impressed with the food and concept when I tried Smashburger and realized the great potential of the restaurant," says Irwin S. Kruger, ISK Systems, LLC owner. "New Yorkers love their burgers and I am confident Long Island residents will quickly embrace Smashburger and its delicious menu items."
