Cousins Subs(R) Franchise Opens In Milwaukee, Unveils New Logo And Restaurant Design

July 20, 2010 // Franchising.com // (Milwaukee, WI) - In January, Cousins Subs announced a rebranding campaign that entailed a new company logo, redesigned restaurant and updated website. This much anticipated "new" store design was unveiled in April with the opening of Cousins Subs at 10855 W. Park Place in Milwaukee.

Local residents Nick & Kim Gierach and Bill Specht Jr., own a total of three Cousins Subs restaurants in the greater Milwaukee area. The business partners celebrated the opening of their third restaurant on Park Place with a grand opening event in June.

"People in Wisconsin know and love Cousins and we are no exception: We're business owners as well as regular customers," said Specht. "Since we've experienced this brand from both sides of the counter, we're always looking for ways to make each Cousins experience the best that it can be. Opening this location with a brand new store design and logo allowed us to do just that."

Cousins Subs brand redesign was completed through a collaborative effort between Milwaukee-based companies. While Welke Group created the logo, RCS Retail Interiors developed the front-of-house restaurant design and Layer One Media spearheaded web design. The signature Cousins logo was finessed with soft highlights to give the letters more depth and a three-dimensional feel as well as a subtle green-striped border that communicates fresher, healthier food. The new store prototype features a consistent 1600 square foot building along with a fresh décor package consisting of colorful wall art, referred to as "Heritage Graphics." The five-foot long images portray the artisanship of Cousins Subs products -- the homemade bread, which is baked fresh multiple times per day, the highest quality of meats and cheeses and the farm-fresh produce that go into making each handcrafted sub. The "Heritage Graphics" serve as a constant reminder of Cousins Subs' dedication to value and providing the best quality food. Each new restaurant also hosts a three-foot by three-foot "History Board," portraying a collage of picture and text boxes, telling the story of Cousins Subs from its founding in 1972 to the present.

Cousins Subs is a restaurant specializing in East Coast-style submarine sandwiches made with the finest ingredients served on a variety of freshly-baked breads, along with salads, soups, chips and soft drinks. The company currently operates 16 company-owned units and 133 franchised locations in six states. By the end of 2010, the company hopes to continue its strategic regional growth and open an additional 15 units throughout the Midwest including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Arizona. Cousins Subs is seeking a mix of single-unit operators, multi-unit operators to open three to five restaurants within a short period of time and multi-concept franchisees who already own restaurants of a non-competing brand wishing to expand their portfolios.
