Mama Fu's Franchise Bridges North and South, Signs Three-Unit Deal in the Steel City

Pan-Asian "Flex-Casual" Concept Meets Consumer Demand for Fresh, Healthy Foods in the Midwest

August 23, 2010 // Franchising.com // AUSTIN, Texas – Since Murphy Adams Restaurant Group purchased Mama Fu's in 2008, business has gone nowhere but up. Powered by strong marketplace demand for healthy dining options, variety and convenience, Mama Fu's, Pan-Asian concept announces the first signing of a three-unit area development agreement for Mama Fu's first locations in Pittsburgh.

The signed agreement, targeting Pittsburgh as well as greater Allegheny & Butler counties is part of an aggressive national expansion plan calling for 150 restaurants in the next five years. Complete with a new prototype, retooled menu and an innovative "flex-casual" service model, the first Mama Fu's location is slated to open during the first quarter in 2011, followed by another location three months later.

With 13 locations successfully operating throughout Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina and Texas, the signed agreement will bring the first Mama Fu's franchised locations to the Pennsylvania market.

"It's a tremendous time for us as we build on our brand's success and sign our first area development agreement in Pittsburgh," said Randy Murphy, President and CEO of Mama Fu's. "Like all groups we strive to partner with, our newest franchise partners opening Pittsburgh are well experienced in the restaurant business and we are excited to help them grow Mama Fu's through the Midwest."

Mama Fu's, where Pan-Asian meets fast and fresh, offers consumers convenience, value and unique flavors with its high quality, made-to-order Asian-inspired food. With a contemporary and user-friendly menu that allows customers to navigate their options more easily, guests can choose between a rice dish or noodle bowl, as well as their protein of choice, from a selection of Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese and Korean menu options. More health-conscious customers can order a Steam Bowl or have their protein prepared wok-seared, a cooking method that reduces oils and starch.

Michigan-based Shaw Concepts, LLC will lead Mama Fu's Pittsburgh expansion. Shaw is comprised of the husband and wife team of Mark and Lisa Shaw. Veterans of business and the franchise industry, Mark and Lisa have successfully opened and operated two Melting Pot franchises and bring a wealth of development knowledge to Mama Fu's.

"With Pittsburgh's young robust economy, we knew Mama Fu's was the perfect concept to bring to the Midwest. The potential for Mama Fu's is endless as it is the only Asian-inspired concept in the marketplace that offers a contemporary flex-casual setting for lunch and dinner," said Mark Shaw. "We couldn't be more excited about bringing the Mama Fu's concept to Pittsburgh and the surrounding area."
