October 28, 2010 // Franchising.com // NEW HOLLAND, PA. - Superior Walls of America, the nation's leading pre-cast concrete foundation system manufacturer, has signed on as a supporter for Season 8 of ABC-TV's popular show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The company will supply and install custom-made energy-efficient basement and crawl space foundations for a variety of homes featured on the home improvement show in 2010 and 2011.
"This sponsorship actually represents a formalization of our ongoing relationship with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," says Keith Weller, CFO of Superior Walls of America. "Since the show started in 2003, our corporate office and licensee partners have donated almost two dozen foundation systems to project homes for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Now we're excited to 'step up' our commitment to support the goals of this television show in helping special families get their dream homes."
Certified crews for Superior Walls will deliver and install the customized insulated panels to the job sites involved with the show and have the entire foundation system installed typically in less than six hours.
"The speed and efficiency with which Superior Walls operates is amazing," says David Bohler, director of construction for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. "We've been exceptionally pleased with the quality of this product since we first started using Superior Walls systems more than five years ago. Given the strict timeline that our show operates under, these foundation systems are perfectly suited for our needs. We really appreciate that the foundations add livable space to the houses we create to help maximize the home environment."
Bohler anticipates using Superior Walls systems in projects nationwide during season #8, starting with a Texas project. Every Superior Walls system used for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has a Green Approved Product designation awarded by the NAHB Research Center. The insulated foundation systems will potentially save families substantially on their total heat losses simply because their homes have now been constructed with the right foundation system.
The steel-reinforced concrete panels created by Superior Walls are matched up in the manufacturing process with DOW® StyrofoamTM boards, providing excellent rigid foam insulation. The resulting XiTM wall panels are constructed with a concrete face shell, backed by 2-1/2-inches of extruded polystyrene insulation. In addition, the steel reinforced concrete walls create a permanent barrier against sidewall water penetration, making the home damp proof.
"Since each Superior Walls system is custom made to the specifications of an individual home, we can include built-in openings for windows and doors for a basement," says Bohler. "The fact that the walls come pre-engineered for wiring or small plumbing elements along with smart stud facing for easy drywall installation helps speed up our overall construction process for the show."
Superior Walls panels are manufactured in a climate-controlled environment and then delivered to new home job sites on special carriers. Cranes are used to carefully lower the custom walls onto a bed of clean, crushed stone, where the panels are permanently fixed into place by specially trained, factory-certified crews.
Fast installation (usually in less than one day) allows the volunteer workers for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to begin construction on the home the same day. Installation can occur year-round in all types of weather.
"Every homeowner wants a warm, dry, insulated basement that can be converted into additional living space in the home," says Weller. "The Superior Walls foundation systems provide the best energy-efficient start to a home project imaginable."
