Bill Stack Trains Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on Business Principles

Coaching for a Cause uses for-profit practices to help charities streamline functions.

November 11, 2010 // Franchising.com // LAS VEGAS – The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Arizona Chapter has always been successful at generating contributions. After all, they run on the same basic principles that have made the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation one of the most popular charities in the world.

But with the economy struggling, big donations were down and the Foundation needed to find other ways to make up for lost donations. That is when Executive Director Jan Lee Sproat decided to take advantage of her friendship with ActionCOACH Bill Stack and take part in ActionCOACH's groundbreaking Coaching for a Cause program.

Coaching for a Cause is a far-reaching, global pro-bono coaching program that helps non-profits and charities from all walks of life increase their top-level goals and better manage their funds through a simple pledge system. The program is designed to bring the proven and systemized business building methodology ActionCOACH uses to help for-profit business owners to non-profit entities.

Last year was the first time Coaching for a Cause ran and it was incredibly successful as ActionCOACH helped raise almost $3 million world- wide. This year the goal is to have 100 coaches donate at least 10,000 coaching hours to produce $5 million in additional funds for the chosen charities.

With the holiday season fast approaching, Coaching for a Cause is a great way for the ActionCOACH community to give back to those less fortunate.

According to Sproat, Coaching for a Cause has been a great program for her Foundation for a number of reasons, most importantly team training.

"Over the last three years we really had to look at ourselves. Larger contributions were drying up so we had to find a way to generate more small contributions, which meant we had to take a different approach, a sales approach to fundraising," She said.

"Bill has been amazing at helping our team make the transition from event planners and managers to salespeople," Sproat continued. But that isn't the only way Stack has helped in the short time he has worked with the Foundation. "Bill has helped me become a better leader for my staff. His coaching has helped relieve some of the stress I have by making so many of my biggest fears go away."

"I think what ActionCOACH is doing with Coaching for a Cause is simply amazing. I can't think of a non-profit that wouldn't benefit from this program. For us, their help is vitally important because if we don't help the people with Cystic Fibrosis, no one will. I'm very happy to have ActionCOACH in our corner for this fight."
