Starwood Announces its 100th Hotel Under St. Regis and The Luxury Collection Brands
The Liberty Hotel joins The Luxury Collection Portfolio
NEW YORK, Jan 19, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. (NYSE: HOT) announced today that the owners of the Liberty Hotel in Boston have signed a license agreement for the award winning historic property making the Liberty the 100th property to join Starwood's Luxury Brands: St. Regis & The Luxury Collection, and its first in Boston. With this milestone, Starwood continues to stand out as the world's leader in luxury hospitality with more hotels in more markets than any competitors in this segment, offering guests exceptional service levels and luxury experiences in a wide range of destinations across the globe.
The hotel is owned by a joint venture between HEI Hotels & Resorts (HEI), the nation's fastest growing private owner/operator of hotel real estate, and Cambridge, Mass.-based Carpenter & Company, Inc., the original hotel developer and co-owner of the Liberty. HEI also operates the property.
The Luxury Collection brand is a diverse ensemble of more than 75 of the world's finest hotels and resorts in more than 30 countries. All of these hotels, many of them centuries old, are internationally recognized as being among the world's finest. As a National Historic Landmark built in 1851, The Liberty Hotel is the perfect fit for The Luxury Collection. Once the storied Charles Street Jail, the hotel is named one of the top U.S. hotels in Conde NastTraveler's Readers' Choice Awards. With its unique ability to marry architectural authenticity with the high standards of refined, modern travel, The Liberty is New England's premier luxury destination.
"With the addition of the Liberty to Starwood's Luxury Collection, we are thrilled to expand on our relationship with both Carpenter and Company and HEI Hotels. Starwood remains focused on growing relationships with the right properties, in the right places, and with the right partners, and this transaction is a terrific example of that focus" said Paul Sacco, Sr. Vice President, North American Development, Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
Sitting at the foot of Boston's Beacon Hill and overlooking the Charles River, The Liberty Hotel is a 300-room urban retreat infused with a distinctive personality that honors the building's rich history while imparting contemporary vibrancy. The building preserves the original structure's commanding 90-foot central rotunda, soaring ceilings, exposed-brick walls, and authentic portions of its historic jail cells. Three floors of balconies are restored prison catwalks, and the property includes a landscaped courtyard designed to be a hidden gem in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.
We are proud to welcome The Liberty into our unique collection of hotels and resorts that celebrate distinctive heritage and authentic character," said Paul James, Global Brand Leader, St. Regis and The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts. "With the building's rich storied past and mysterious character, The Liberty is destined to be a coveted destination for global travellers and an unparalleled way to discover Boston."
The Liberty Hotel is anchored by several restaurants, CLINK, Alibi, Scampo, and the Liberty Bar, which makes it the perfect spot for experiencing all that Boston offers. CLINK. boasts a unique modern American menu prepared by classically-trained Chef Joseph Margate, the room is designed with vestiges of original jails cells that create cozy nooks for an intimate dining experience. Scampo redefines Italian food with cuisine unrestrained by borders, drawing on flavors from the Mediterranean and Middle East and curated by award-winning chef Lydia Shire. And Alibi is a hot spot for cocktails and late night snacking with original bluestone floors and brick cell walls; and with an outdoor patio, it is a rare off-street locale for enjoying drinks and watching the sunset.
