Wingstop Named Official Wings of Grambling State University

Partnership with Grambling Tigers is first college sponsorship for national chicken wing chain

February 10, 2011 // Franchising.com // RICHARDSON, Texas – Grambling State University and Wingstop announced today that Wingstop will be the Official Wings Of The Grambling Tigers.

As the Official Wings, Grambling students, alumni and fans will receive exclusive offers and giveaways at the Wingstop stores located in Ruston, La. and West Monroe, La.

To celebrate the first-time partnership, Wingstop executives, franchise owners and the Grambling Athletics Team will take part in an official announcement Friday, Feb. 11 at the Grambling State University Memorial Gym, prior to the men's basketball game.

Wingstop will also introduce a season-long basketball promotion where attending fans will receive five free wings with purchase if the Tigers score at least 50 points during the game. In addition, Wingstop will have a presence on Grambling Sports Radio Network, the Athletic Website, in-stadium signage, football game programs and more.

The Ruston and West Monroe Wingstop locations are owned and operated by franchisees Clarence and Toni Jones.

"Grambling State University, its students and the Athletic Department are an integral part of our community and we are excited to join the team and support the university," said Clarence Jones. "We think this is the perfect partnership to bring both Grambling and Wingstop fans together."

This is Wingstop's first venture with college athletics. The company, which is based in Richardson, Texas, has a strong history with professional sports and is the Official Wings of the Dallas Cowboys, the Preferred Wings of the Houston Texans and the Official Wings of the Los Angeles Lakers. Former Hall of Fame quarterback and current Fox sportscaster Troy Aikman has been the company's spokesman since 2003.

Grambling State University, which is celebrating its 110th anniversary this year, has one of the most well-known college athletic programs in the nation and offers 46 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
