Massage Envy(R) Announces Expansion Into North and South Dakota

First New Center to Open in June 2011 and Others Over the Next Several Years

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., March 31, 2011 // PRNewswire // -- Massage Envy, the pioneer and national leader of affordable and convenient massage and spa services, announced today the signing of a multi-unit Regional Developer agreement with Gary W. Meyers for the development of 10 new centers throughout North and South Dakota. The first opening is slated for Sioux Falls, SD, in early June.

Massage Envy's development throughout the Dakotas is part of a steady and strategic plan being implemented by the brand, which includes expanding in existing markets while entering new cities across the country to help drive the growth of the world's largest system of franchised massage centers.

A Massage Envy regional developer and franchisee since 2004, Meyers currently has 26 licenses sold and 17 centers opened throughout Minnesota. He operates two Massage Envy Spa locations in Woodbury and Blaine, MN.

"My passion for the company and my experience in running and operating two million-dollar Massage Envy centers will certainly enable me to expand Massage Envy's presence in North and South Dakota," said Meyers. "As a long-term Massage Envy franchisee, I pride myself on providing our guests the ability to take charge of their own health and wellness through our full range of convenient, affordable and professional spa and massage services."

In 2010, Massage Envy experienced unprecedented growth with the opening of 43 new locations, bringing the total number of centers to more than 670 units currently operating in 43 states. In addition, since introducing its Massage Envy Spa® concept in late 2009, the company has opened or converted a record of more than 280 spa locations in 37 states. Despite the recession, Massage Envy also has experienced a 29 percent growth in membership, increasing from 701,000 members in 2009 to over 900,000 members in 2010.

In fact, last year, the company performed its 20 millionth massage. Net sales for franchisees have grown as well. For the 530 centers that have been open for more than 12 months as of Dec. 31, 2009, they have averaged nearly $900,000 in annual net sales. The company also is the world's largest employer of licensed/registered massage therapists with more than 16,000 therapists providing over 250,000 massages every week.

"Massage Envy is excited to see Gary expand into the North and South Dakota markets," said Massage Envy CEO David Humphrey. "Our success in these two new markets will stem directly from Gary's commitment to provide affordable and accessible massage therapy and skincare treatments for guests who recognize the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle focused on wellness."

In addition to the development agreement mentioned above, Massage Envy is seeking new and existing franchisees to expand across the country with Massage Envy Spa. To fuel this growth, the company is looking for specific franchisee candidates who have the ability and the desire to learn and follow a system that ensures value and customer satisfaction.

With such a strong established brand, Massage Envy has programs available to assist with financing.
