The Greene Turtle Awards First Franchise In Pennsylvania

Four-Unit Deal Will Bring Three More Sites To Delaware and Introduce Maryland's Famed Sports Bar & Grille To Keystone State's Chester County

April 05, 2011 // Franchising.com // EDGEWATER, Md. – The Greene Turtle announced today that it has completed a four-unit franchise deal that will add three locations in Delaware and put the popular sports bar and grille on the map for the first time in Pennsylvania, in Chester County.

Pusan Investments LLC, a newly formed company, plans to open the first of four Greene Turtle franchises by early 2012 in Delaware, and will then develop two more sites there and one in Pennsylvania by the end of 2014.

The Greene Turtle first entered Delaware in 2008 with a company-operated location in Lewes. A franchise location followed last June in the popular destination area of Rehoboth Beach. The company plans to open at least six sites throughout the state and 40 to 45 locations throughout Pennsylvania as part of its strategic growth initiative. Launched in early 2009, the current plan calls for 150 units to be open or under development throughout the East within five years.

Crossing the border into Pennsylvania, says CEO J. Michael Sanford, is a key milestone tied to The Greene Turtle's continued expansion up the East Coast.

"Penetrating Pennsylvania matches the importance of our move south into Virginia two years ago," he says. "We opened in Fredericksburg in late 2009, and have opened three other restaurants in Virginia and secured agreements for 10 more units statewide. Now that we've put a stake in the ground in Pennsylvania, we anticipate seeing similar proliferation of The Greene Turtle to the north."

Today The Greene Turtle has 26 restaurants in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Delaware and Virginia, and commitments in place for 27 additional franchise sites. The chain is now seeking franchisees in North and South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Connecticut, Georgia and Florida.
