McDonald's(R) Restaurants in Florida to Serve Students Free Breakfast on First Day of FCAT -- Monday, April 11

For Second Year Running, Students Can "Fuel Up" on Balanced Meal Before Exam

--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- FCAT Media/Photo Opportunity

WHAT:

For the second consecutive year more than 800 McDonald's restaurants in Florida will serve students taking Florida's Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) a free breakfast. The free breakfast includes an Egg McMuffin®, choice of 1% low fat white milk or a small orange juice, and a package of Apple Dippers.

WHEN:

Monday, April 11, 2011 -- the first day of FCAT testing.

WHY:

Cindy Goody, PhD, Senior Director of Nutrition for McDonald's USA, says a wholesome breakfast that includes food groups like fruit, whole grains and low fat milk or lean protein helps provide the fuel and nutrients children need to start the day.

"Whether students eat at home, at their school or at McDonald's, it's important to have a well-balanced breakfast every day," said Dr. Goody, a registered and licensed dietitian. "For children and adults, a balanced breakfast can contribute many important nutrients to help meet daily nutritional needs as well as provide energy to start the day."

As local business leaders and parents themselves, McDonald's 120 franchise Owners in Florida are committed to contributing to the well-being of children in their communities. Last year more than 190,000 students enjoyed a free McDonald's breakfast prior to taking the FCAT. If parents can't bring their children to McDonald's, many schools serve free breakfast the morning of FCAT. Parents can check with their child's school to see if a free breakfast is offered.
