April 18, 2011 // Franchising.com // BOULDER, Colo. – With a development pipeline that now has more than 100 new locations under development, Doc Popcorn is positioned for significant expansion in 2011 and beyond. During the first quarter of 2011, the brand awarded nine franchise agreements representing 60 new units. Both marks are records for the brand for one quarter.
"The momentum we've created for Doc Popcorn is catching the attention of individuals from a variety of backgrounds who are seeking a career change into entrepreneurship. They're looking for a business model they can easily operate and which allows them to quickly realize the benefits of owning their new business," said Rob Israel, co-founder and Big Pop of Doc Popcorn. "Doc Popcorn delivers what today's new entrepreneurs want. We are ecstatic about moving the company forward with the group of franchisees we've recently awarded agreements to this past quarter."
Five of the nine franchise agreements finalized in the first quarter are Doc Popcorn Empire Agreements, which provide franchisees the opportunity to open 10 units. The Empire Agreement deals will result in new units opening throughout New Jersey, Maryland, Alaska, Missouri and Rhode Island. Additionally, the brand recently signed its first Area Developer agreement for new units in New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
"From individuals with big business experience at all levels to professionals with extensive time in executive positions, Doc Popcorn attracts a talented pool of prospects," said Renée Israel, co-founder and Mama Pop. "It's a business that they can feel good about running, and they realize that early on in the discovery process. Along with our franchisees, we are truly cementing Doc Popcorn as one of the fastest growing snack franchise concepts."
Compounding the excitement surrounding the brand are recent openings, including new operations in Richmond, Va., and San Diego. Plus, new openings are planned for the second quarter in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., as well as Illinois and North Carolina.
The growth achieved in the first quarter and planned for the second quarter and beyond is part of Doc Popcorn's rapid U.S. expansion.
