According to the International Franchise Association there are over 3,100 franchise concepts in over 90 different categories. Franchising is a $2.3 trillion dollar industry with 900,000 franchised businesses. They provide 21 million jobs equaling $660.9 billion in annual payrolls and franchised businesses generated more jobs between 2001 and 2005 than several of the nation's major economic sectors. "Franchised businesses create thousands of jobs each year and have helped develop local economies, while providing endless business opportunities," said Joan Young, President of FranNet for the San Jose area. "The great thing about owning a franchise during this economy is that many are recession resistant and have proven systems that help new business owners grow quickly."
