Paul Davis Restoration of Kane, Kendall, and West Cook Counties awards scholarship

June 17, 2011 // Franchising.com // Aurora, Ill. - Jack O'Connell, owner of Paul Davis Restoration of Kane, Kendall, and West Cook Counties has announced that his company has awarded a $500 scholarship to Holly Louise Kuhn of Sugar Grove, Ill. Holly is a student at Rosary High School and received the honor for an essay about her father. Phil Kuhn, a firefighter in St. Charles, was featured in his daughter's essay about his dedication to saving lives while working in a perilous occupation. Holly honored her father with a portion of the essay that explained Phil's courage and hard work to support the family. Holly also shared her thoughts about the support and kindness she received from local firefighters during a recent family member's health set back.

The scholarship was awarded on June 14 at Phil Kuhn's fire station and attended by Holly's mother, grandparents, and friends along with firefighters and St. Charles Fire Department Lieutenant Daren Peterson. The surprise presentation brought tears to the eyes of those present. "Holly was so thankful and definitely excited. As Holly read her essay aloud, her mom Katie started to cry. Her father was thankful and very proud of his daughter," said O'Connell. "We were honored to present the reward to Holly and will continue to offer this scholarship next year," he said.

The Paul Davis scholarship opportunity was launched in March for any child or dependent of a firefighter or emergency medical personnel who plans to pursue postsecondary education at an accredited community college, college, university or technical college. To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled in high school or as an undergraduate student. A parent or legal guardian must be a current volunteer or a career fire and rescue responder in the following towns; North Aurora, Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, and Elburn. Applicants were required to submit a 500 word essay on what it means to have a parent or guardian as a firefighter.
