August 04, 2011 // Franchising.com // Pensacola, FL – Planet Fitness, one of the fastest growing gym chains in the U.S., will be opening in the Pensacola area next month and is offering a low $1 start up fee now through August 31.
The popular health club's brand is known for its relaxed, hassle-free atmosphere that includes a low tolerance for Lunkhead© behavior like grunting and weight-dropping, and helping people of various fitness levels by providing free fitness instruction to all new members.
David Crumbley will be the regional manager in charge of developing multiple locations in Pensacola and the surrounding area. "It's affordable, and provides a unique environment in which people of all shapes and sizes can feel comfortable," stated Crumbley. "We've boiled our business down to the things that people really want in a health club – clean, stylish facilities that are filled with tons of brand-name cardio and strength equipment."
Membership costs only $10 a month and does not require long-term commitments. The 15,600-square-foot gym will be located at 5998 Mobile Highway, Pensacola, FL, 32526.
Owners Eric Dore and Shane McGuiness became the first Planet Fitness franchisees in September 2003 when they opened a location in Altamonte Springs, FL. To date, Dore and McGuiness serve an estimated 80,000 members with 165 employees throughout their Central Florida locations. Their experiences in the Orlando market made them realize North Florida is an ideal location for growing the brand. "We saw a need in the Pensacola area for a gym with an inviting, judgment free environment and low membership fees," explains McGuiness. "We plan to open additional Planet Fitness locations in the area then expand into Fort Walton Beach and Panama City."
Planet Fitness was founded in 1992. The New Hampshire-based company consisted of only four gyms as recently as 2003. Today, there are more than 430 Planet Fitness locations in 40 states. Visit www.PlanetFitness.com for more information and club hours.
