Tasti D-lite Expanding In New Jersey
Local residents to bring NYC's famed frozen treat to Ho-Ho-Kus
August 19, 2011 // Franchising.com // (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ)---Tasti D-Lite, the great-tasting, lower-calorie frozen dessert chain with a cult following among health-conscious consumers as well as celebrities, will open a new location at 622 North Maple Ave. in September.
Ridgewood residents Vinny Errigo and Donna Sabatini, long time Tasti D-Lite fans, are the entrepreneurs behind the new concept opening near the Ho-Ho-Kus train station.
Errigo and Sabatini, long-term partners, met while working at a New York City brokerage firm where Sabatini was the CFO. For years, the couple has dined in Manhattan and typically stops at one of the many Tasti D-Lite locations throughout the city for dessert. Sabatini continues to work in New York City, serving as CFO of a different brokerage firm. Errigo will be in charge of managing the day-to-day operations of their new Tasti D-Lite business.
"We weren't looking to open a business," said Errigo who will manage the day-to-day operations of the center. "Donna and I were just at home one day, both craving Tasti D-Lite, when we looked online for the nearest center only to find out it was 40 miles away. We knew right away there were others like us who know and love the product's great taste and healthier nutritional profile and would visit often if it was in their neighborhood."
Since its inception in 1987, Tasti D-Lite's popularity has grown largely by word of mouth and has resulted in a huge base of raving fans who line up day and night to get their favorite guilt-free treat, available in more than 100 flavors every day. With Tasti D-Lite, health-conscious
individuals can enjoy a dessert that is made with natural ingredients including real dairy, contains no artificial sweeteners and is lower in calories, carbs and sugar than ice cream and leading frozen yogurt brands. Thanks to unsolicited international exposure on TV shows such as "30 Rock," "Sex and the City" and "The Apprentice" along with new store openings, demand for the brand has grown worldwide. Tasti D-Lite is now poised for growth throughout the U.S. and around the world with plans to build a global 500-center franchise network through a combination of single- and multi-unit franchises, area developers and international master franchises.
Jim Amos, Tasti D-Lite's chairman and CEO, says, "Many of Tasti D-Lite's franchisees are people just like Vinny and Donna who have lived in or spent a lot of time in New York City. They share the same passion for the brand as our other loyal customers because that's how they got to know Tasti…as customers. With their strong business backgrounds coupled with their love for the brand, we know that Vinny and Donna will be outstanding Tasti D-Lite franchisees and will proudly deliver Tasti's wide variety of healthier treats along with a great customer experience."
Tasti D-Lite first launched its franchise program in 2008. Since then, the company has grown to 55 locations and has secured commitments to open over 300 locations in the coming years. The brand has locations in twelve U.S. states today, with plans to open in several additional states before the end of the year. Internationally, the company already has locations in Mexico and the United Arab Emirates and will be opening units in Australia and Panama in 2011. Led by a world-class operating team, the company is undertaking a program of product innovation, customer engagement and service excellence.
