Massage Envy DC-MD-NoVA Hosts Healing Hands for Arthritis to Benefit the Arthritis Foundation

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Wednesday, October 12, Massage Envy clinics throughout the D.C./Baltimore metro area are joining forces with the Arthritis Foundation to host Healing Hands for Arthritis, a one-day national event to build awareness and raise funds to fight arthritis.

"This event enables our clients and communities to show their support for individuals, both children and adults, faced with arthritis."

On this day, which aligns with World Arthritis Day, all 25 area Massage Envy clinics in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia will donate $10 from every one-hour massage and facial to the Arthritis Foundation and directly support the one in five adults and nearly 300,000 children who suffer from the pain of arthritis. This year marks the first year Massage Envy, the national leader of affordable and convenient massage and spa services, joins forces with the Arthritis Foundation and over 700 clinics across the country will take part in Healing Hands for Arthritis.

"Partnering with the Arthritis Foundation was a natural fit, as we both a share a common understanding about the seriousness of the disease, the power of massage therapy to relieve symptoms, and what must be done to prevent, cure and control it," said Eric Barton, Regional Developer for Massage Envy. All proceeds donated during Healing Hands for Arthritis will support the Arthritis Foundation's nationwide efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases. Additionally, Murad®, Massage Envy Spa's strategic skin care partner, will donate 10 percent of all sales from products sold at the clinics during the event to the Arthritis Foundation.

Over the past two years, Massage Envy has donated nearly $100,000 to fund clinical research related to the benefits of massage therapy. Recent scientific studies have found that massage therapy increases immune function, decreases stress levels, and reduces recovery time in many medical conditions including arthritis.
