Kumon Announces New Chief Operating Officer Heads U.S. Operations

TEANECK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kumon North America, the world’s largest after-school education company, announces the appointment of Savio Rebelo to chief operating officer. Mr. Rebelo was the former Northeast general manager and is the youngest senior executive in Kumon North America. In his new role, Mr. Rebelo is responsible for the U.S. operations consisting of 1,300 franchise units.

"Savio has made enormous contributions to Kumon since he joined the organization in 2003," said Akira Hamanaka, president of Kumon North America. "Under his direction, the Northeast region broke a 17-year growth record, and I am confident he can replicate that success across all regions. Our goal is to bring the Kumon Method to as many children as possible, and he's determined to achieve this aim."

The Kumon Method builds critical thinking and analytical skills by nurturing a student’s ability to learn new concepts independently. Lesson plans are customized for each student, and children study at a pace that matches their ability, rather than by age or grade level. As a result, students soon begin to advance beyond their grade level in school.
