LED Source(R) Teams Up With Toshiba To Donate New Led Lighting To Local Charity

December 01, 2011 // Franchising.com // (Wellington, Fla.)--- LED Source®, an international supplier of LED lighting based in Wellington, has teamed up with Toshiba International Corporation, LED Lighting Systems Division, one of the largest lighting companies in the world, to donate an LED lighting retrofit for the Kids In Distress (KID) facility based in Broward County. The mission of KID is to prevent child abuse, preserve the family and treat children who have been abused and neglected. The install will be taking place at KID located at 819 NE 26th Street in Wilton Manors on Friday, Dec. 2 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. EST.

Timm Stifter, sales support manager at LED Source and heavily involved with KID, recently brought to light the challenges the charity was facing with their current lighting. Over the years, Stifter noticed that many of the facility’s current incandescent bulbs are burned-out, mismatched and hard to change due to their location. The bulbs require constant replacing and maintenance, which can cost unnecessary expenses for the charity. Stifter knew that LED lighting would not only improve the current lighting condition and help to provide an increased level of safety for the kids, but also help the organization cut costs on unnecessary maintenance fees and energy bills.

“KID is an excellent operation that provides much needed shelter and support for some of Broward and Palm Beach counties most deprived children,” says Sifter. “Coming from abusive homes, it’s so important that these kids feel safe and secure in their new environment. The right lighting can offer comfort to the children, but also peace of mind for those running the organization so they can focus on what really matters. LEDs are the most energy efficient lighting solution currently available, they’re mercury and toxin-free and can an average of 50,000 hours before needing replacement.”

What started in a small house in 1979 as an emergency shelter for the youngest victims of abuse and neglect, KID has since grown to a five-acre campus in Broward County with a satellite office in Palm Beach County. They are the largest provider of foster homes in both Broward and Palm Beach counties, offering services for more than 6,000 children and their families. Additionally, KID operates one of the only remaining emergency shelters for children ages newborn to 15, and a family-counseling center.

“Our goal is to provide a safe environment for children in need,” says Mark D. Dhooge
vice president and COO of KID. “All of our programs and services are designed specifically to give children and their families the tools, skills, services, and education they need to maintain a safe, stable, and healthy setting, in which they thrive. The state of our facility is of utmost importance to us and we couldn’t be more grateful to LED Source and Toshiba for donating their services to our organization.”

After learning about KID and their need for updated, energy-efficient and long-lasting lighting, Toshiba International Corporation, LED Lighting Systems Division, joined forces with LED Source by providing 32 PAR30, nine PAR38 and 12 A19 LED lamps for the project.
