December 14, 2011 // Franchising.com // SOUTHBURY, Conn. – With veteran unemployment staggering steeply above the national average and the return of many service men and women, FranchisEsource Brands International (FSBI) is showing its gratitude by committing to hire 300 qualified military veterans by 2014.
In an effort to give back to those who have given so much, FSBI has committed to hire and recruit qualified military veterans as associate Business Development Representatives and Coaches and pair them with participating franchisees to work collaboratively in the booming professional coaching industry. The associates will work with small businesses to help them grow and prosper in such areas as leadership, sales, marketing, human resources and communication. In addition to the associates program, FSBI offers a 15 percent discount from the standard franchise fee for qualifying military veterans.
“As our service men and women return stateside, many of them are facing a tight employment market with a saturation of willing and qualified candidates,” said Terry Powell, CEO and founder of FSBI, the globally acclaimed multi-brand franchisor with six high-performance brands in its portfolio such as TES, AdviCoach® and Decor & You®, among others. “Because of their training and discipline, countless military veterans have found franchised business to be a perfect fit for their skills and a viable platform to build income, lifestyle, wealth and equity for their family. Offering a 15 percent discount and providing 300 deserving veterans with an opportunity to smoothly transition back into civilian life is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the men and women who serve our country and preserve our freedom.”
FSBI’s veterans commitment stems from the International Franchise Association’s (IFA)
Operation Enduring Opportunity veterans hiring plan, which calls to hire and recruit 75,000 honorably discharged military veterans and 5,000 wounded warriors by 2014.
“As tens of thousands of service men and women return from deployment in Iraq, Afghanistan and Southwest Asia, expanded opportunities are needed to ensure veterans and their families are able to transition into the civilian economy. Not only is this critical for the economic and social stability of veterans and their families, but it is an important component of the U.S. economic recovery,” said Steve Caldeira, IFA President & CEO. “With its rapid training opportunities, defined structure and systems, and need for operational excellence, franchising provides an ideal structure to enable returning veterans to become leaders of and productive participants in the U.S. economy.”
Veterans have a proven track record of success in franchising. According to a recent study based on U.S. Census data, there are more than 66,000 veteran-owned franchise establishments in the United States, providing jobs directly for 815,000 Americans.
