Military Family Receives Free Whole-House Paint Job Through Generosity of Fresh Coat Painters Franchise
When Amber Pearson sought a price break on painting at her home, she received much more than she expected. Alan Dorothy, owner of Fresh Coat Painters of San Antonio, decided she and her husband, an Iraq War veteran, deserved a whole house makeover.
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) December 22, 2011 - Christmas came early for Anthony and Amber Pearson with a whirlwind home makeover provided by Fresh Coat Painters of San Antonio. Every room of their roughly 1,500-square-foot home was painted free of charge because of the generosity of the franchise’s owner, Alan Dorothy. In just three days, his team painted all the walls, ceilings and trims of their three-bedroom, two-bath home -- all at no charge to the Pearsons.
For Dorothy, who spent a career in the military, the Pearsons’ story hit close to home. Two deployments to Iraq had left Anthony struggling with a traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder. Meanwhile Amber was at home expecting their first child during his first tour and then acting as a single mother to their son until Anthony’s return from the second tour.
“From the day I met Alan, I knew he had a heart of gold,” Amber said. “He understood me and he understood the struggles we were going through as a military family.”
Dorothy said that Amber had approached him to request a discount on painting for just a couple of rooms of their home.
“She wanted to get the whole house painted, but she knew they couldn’t afford that right now,” he said. “When I can, I like to make a donation of painting services, and when I heard her story, I said ‘let’s just go ahead and get measurements for everything.’ Later when I was evaluating needs, I decided to make their home my donation project for this year.”
Married since 2008, the couple had bought their first home in 2010 – “nothing big and nothing too spectacular,” Amber said. “But it’s ours, and we love it.”
Like many older homes, it needs lots of improvements, she said, and they expected it to take years before they could afford to make those changes.
“We wanted our house painted since the day we moved in, but we knew it was no where in our budget,” she said. “The yellow high-gloss painted walls and the yellow flowers in the kitchen, just weren’t very flattering for a young couple.”
To make the change, the family moved in with relatives while Dorothy’s team of five painters spent three days applying two coats of neutral paint to all the ceilings, walls and trims throughout the entire three-bedroom, two-bath house.
“We really had to architect it, especially since we had to work around all of the furniture,” Dorothy said, “but we managed to pull it all together just in time for the holidays.”
The estimated value of the work was $5,400 – a price that covers only the monetary value of the donation.
“When I received the news of Alan’s donation, it brought tears to my eyes …,” Amber said. “Things like this don’t happen to us. I absolutely love the job Alan and his team did. I can’t wait to wake up every morning and go home every day after work. There are times I don’t even want to leave my house because I love it so much. Our house finally feels more like home.”
