Janet M. Garetto Named Office Managing Partner

January 24, 2012 // Franchising.com // Chicago, IL. - Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that Janet M. Garetto has been named managing partner of the firm’s Chicago office effective February 1, 2012.

Ms. Garetto is a trusted advisor to leading companies across a wide range of industries regarding intellectual property counseling and litigation. She is president of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, which is the oldest IP law association in the United States, with more than 1,000 members. She is also active in the Chicago business community holding two leadership positions with the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Garetto counsels clients on patent drafting and application prosecution across various chemical and mechanical areas, and preparing infringement, invalidity, and due diligence opinions. She also focuses on trademark matters, trademark prosecution, and handling proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Ms. Garetto is an experienced patent and trademark litigator. She is also a member of the firm’s Policy Committee, which serves as an oversight and policy making body.

Ms. Garetto succeeds Stephen G. Rudisill, a highly respected and successful intellectual property litigator well known in Chicago business circles. Mr. Rudisill led the Chicago office for more than four years while managing his busy practice. “Steve was instrumental in launching our Chicago office in 2007 and has made tremendous contributions to our firm,” said Mr. Glincher. “I wish to thank Steve for his many years of service and leadership.”

Ms. Garetto was named one of the “40 Illinois Attorneys to Watch Under 40” by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company in 2006. She earned her J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and her B.A. in chemistry from Northwestern University. Ms. Garetto is also a graduate of the Executive Program at the Harvard Business School.
