Snip-Its To Open In Guilderland, NY

Children's hair salon to open in the Hamilton Square. Salon Grand Opening to support Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center.

Guilderland, NY (January 24, 2012) – Snip-its (, one of the country’s fastest-growing chains of children’s hair salons, is opening in Guilderland's Hamilton Square on Feb. 3, 2012. Owned by local mom Denise Deitz, Snip-its Guilderland will offer children’s haircuts and styles; birthday parties; spa services, including mini facials, manicures and pedicures; children's entertainment; prizes; natural hair care products; accessories; toys; and more. The grand opening will take place from Friday, Feb. 3 - Sunday, Feb. 5. Face painting, a kids DJ, balloon artist, arts and crafts, and other special activities and treats will be provided for the kids. Snip-its Guilderland will be open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

As part of its grand opening, Snip-its Aventura will donate 15% of its proceeds to the The Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center, an organization that has provided support for the Deitzs and their son. Funds raised will help provide services, resources and activities for members, including fundraising events, collateral materials, education and staffing. All of Snip-its' stylists are certified to work with children with special needs. And, Snip-its offers a haircutting guide for stylists and parents of children with autism and special needs to help prepare kids for the salon experience.

First launched in 1995 by founder Joanna Meiseles, Snip-its has since been revolutionizing the hair care industry by creating a branded entertainment concept designed to untangle the hair-care challenges of children. Currently, Snip-its has more than 60 locations in 26 U.S. states. The Guilderland, NY location will be one of five of this franchise in New York.

With life-size characters, music and games, Snip-its has turned what was once a tedious chore into an amazing adventure, filled with fun, games and excitement. Upon entering the salon, parents and children step into a magical cartoon world of adventure characterized by floor-to-ceiling cartoon murals and vibrant splashy colors. In the waiting area, they can enjoy the Snip-its show, featuring a whimsical cast of cartoon characters; play with toys; or browse the retail space filled with a selection of natural hair care products, specialty toys and gifts, and hair and fashion accessories. Each cutting station includes a special parent chair, and an entertainment station featuring computer games and activities for the little ones. Upon completion of the haircut, children insert a lock of hair into the “Snip-its Magic Box” for a prize.

It’s My Party…

In addition to hair care, the Guilderland location will offer spa services, such as mini-manicures, mini- pedicures and mini-facials using kid-friendly cosmetics and nail polish; birthday parties; and events. For birthday parties, children will be able to select from one of four fun-filled-themes, including:

  • Glamour Party – The birthday child and special guests glam it up in feathers, sequins and sparkles, then strut their stuff down our "catwalk" with their new party style hair, make-up and nails.
  • Spa Party – Pampered is the key word here. The birthday child and guests wear plush robes for an afternoon of cucumber facials, mini manicures and/or mini pedicures.
  • Hollywood Party – This is for the little star who belongs on the red carpet. After the birthday child and his/her entourage get their movie-star makeover with a party hair style, make-up, nails and wardrobe, they take a walk down the red carpet while surrounded by paparazzi.
  • Rock Star Party – Kids dreaming of becoming the next Hannah Montana or Justin Bieber will love this party theme, which includes getting the “rock-star treatment” of a funky hairstyle, make-up, nails and accessories. The little Rock Star then jams to karaoke tunes with his/her biggest fans.

All parties include invitations, birthday cake, favors, and a special gift for the birthday child.

“Snip-its will be the first children's salon in Guilderland. We're excited to introduce such a unique concept to this community, and to be able to give back to an organization that has given our family so much,” said owner Deitz.
