Trial Lawyer and Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Joins Nixon Peabody

Sean T. Haran Previously Served as Deputy Chief of the Business and Securities Fraud Section (EDNY)

February 14, 2012 // Franchising.com // New York, NY. - Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce the arrival of new partner Sean T. Haran, who joins the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Defense practice in New York. He represents some of the world’s leading companies and their executives in high-stakes and sensitive matters involving the Department of Justice, the Securities & Exchange Commission, the New York State Attorney General’s Office, and other federal and state agencies.

Mr. Haran has tried more than a dozen criminal cases to verdict in federal and state court involving allegations of securities fraud, mail and wire fraud, insurance fraud, money laundering, antitrust violations, and conspiracy. His clients look to him for advice covering the spectrum of complex criminal, civil, and regulatory matters. In addition to his extensive experience as defense counsel, Mr. Haran served for seven years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of New York, where he supervised federal prosecutors as deputy chief of the Business and Securities Fraud Section.

“Law enforcement is more aggressive today than ever before. In the current environment, more governmental regulations are being enforced through prosecution rather than civil fines and the mere threat of an indictment can be serious, disruptive, and costly to companies and executives,” said David Vicinanzo, co-leader of Nixon Peabody’s Government Investigations & White Collar Defense practice. “Sean has the substantive knowledge, experience, and reputation to represent our clients even in the most sensitive of investigations.”

“Sean’s arrival adds to our already strong New York City team of attorneys focused on managing and resolving government investigations so our clients can get back to business,” said Arthur Rosner, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s New York office. “Sean is well-versed in defending investment banks, broker dealers, hedge funds, financial services firms, technology companies, and public and private companies against all manner of federal and state investigations.”

Mr. Haran joins Nixon Peabody from Paul Hastings. He is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, where he received his J.D. Mr. Haran earned his B.A. from the University of Virginia.
