Green is a Good Choice for Good Earth Coffeehouse & Bakery

Small choices are adding up to a big difference in reducing Good Earth’s Environmental Impact.

CALGARY, March 5, 2012 – Since 1991, Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery has made environmental responsibility a part of its mission. The company and its customers continue to make a positive impact on the environment by making greener choices:

Greener Energy

All 35 Good Earth coffeehouses are 100% Wind Powered through Bullfrog Power®, a leading Canadian provider of 100 per cent green electricity. Good Earth is purchasing over 1,435 Mwh of clean, renewable power for our cafés annually. In doing so, Good Earth is reducing its environmental footprint by over 1,130 tonnes of CO2 per year. Good Earth’s cumulative carbon emissions reduction is a whopping 3,674.95 tonnes, since 2007!

Greener Packaging and Resource Reduction

Compostable Cup - Good Earth has chosen to serve its exceptional coffee and food in coffee cups and hot food containers that are made with 100% renewable tree and plant resources. These cups and containers can be composted in commercial composting facilities.

Recycled Content - Good Earth’s Cup Sleeves are made from 100% recycled contacted and can be composted or recycled. In addition to cup sleeves Good Earth uses EcoLogo-certified paper products, including napkins, bathroom tissue, and paper towels. By choosing SCA's EcoLogo-certified products, Good Earth has saved 294,848 gallons of water, 128 cubic yards of landfill space, 172,697 kilowatts of energy, 16,006 gallons of oil, 2,527 lbs. of air pollutants and 716 trees.

“Making greener choices has been part of our company mission since 1991. We continue to move toward sustainability for our company, our community and our planet”, says Nan Eskenazi, Co-founder. “We believe in giving people a coffeehouse choice they can feel good about!”
