UFood Grill Ranked among America’s Top Fast Casual "Movers & Shakers"

FastCasual.com Rates UFood Grill Among Best in 2011’s Fast Casual segment

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UFood Restaurant Group Inc. (OTCBB: UFFC) announced today that they have been ranked in America’s Top 100 Fast Casual “Movers & Shakers” by FastCasual.com.

“expose the… brand to millions of consumers and support the growth plan for traditional stores in major U.S. markets.”

Annually, FastCasual.com evaluates hundreds of top fast casual restaurant brands, based on their creativity and innovation to move their brands and the segment forward. Valerie Killifer, FastCasual.com’s EVP of Foodservice noted, “It wasn’t easy narrowing down the field of some 600-plus restaurant brands. Our panel’s goal was to gather and rank the chains that best reflected the fast casual segment’s phenomenal growth. It’s been said that this category of restaurants stands in a class by itself and holds a strong position in the industry.” She went on to say, “We’ve gathered what we believe to be the strongest fast casual players and take pride in the fact that these chains represent the best of the best.”

In the FastCasual.com article (http://www.fastcasual.com/whitepapers/4125/2011-Top-100-Movers-and-Shakers), UFood Grill’s ranking was based on its retooling of it’s better-for-you menu, redesigned stores and positive non-traditional growth in channels like hospitals, military bases, airports and colleges with contract foodservice operators. The reason for the non-traditional growth, according to George Naddaff, UFood’s Chairman and Chief Executive is that those venues would, “expose the… brand to millions of consumers and support the growth plan for traditional stores in major U.S. markets.”

Importantly, non-traditional expansion includes UFood growing into the US military and government-related channels, beginning with the opening of three locations at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, MD this spring, as well as a new unit within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) headquarters, located in the Department of Transportation Building in Washington, D.C.

UFood Grill currently operates restaurants in a number of trade channels including airports, hospitals, shopping centers and urban storefronts. The company’s airport locations are in Boston, Cleveland and Dallas. In addition, two units are under construction at Salt Lake City International Airport, expected to open in late April 2012.

The place where “delicious meets nutritious,” UFood Grill is committed to offering consumers great tasting food that is lower in calories and fat and, wherever possible, serves meals that are antibiotic and hormone-free, gluten-free as well as natural, grass-fed beef and cage-free eggs. UFood boasts a wide-ranging menu that includes lean burgers, rice bowls, salads, wraps, paninis and smoothies.
