March 28, 2012 // Franchising.com // Minneapolis and Brussels - Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the world’s largest and most dynamic hotel groups, today announced the kick off of World Cleanup 2012, a campaign which aims to cleanup illegal stray garbage and raise people’s awareness. With more than 100 countries participating, World Cleanup 2012 officially began on March 24, and will sweep the globe until September 25. Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group is the only global partner of World Cleanup 2012 within the hospitality industry.
“Doing business in a responsible and sustainable way is of highest importance to our group,” said Thorsten Kirschke, president, Americas. “We have asked our hotels in the Americas to join together in September and do cleanups in their communities, such as participating in a coastline cleanup or assisting in communities recently devastated by tornadoes.”
Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group already hosted the international World Cleanup 2012 conference that took place in January at the Radisson Blu Olympia Hotel in Tallinn (Estonia). Between March and September, the group will invite its hotels in 80 countries and territories to participate in cleanup actions; and celebrate the end of World Cleanup 2012 in September, the group’s annual Responsible Business Action Month.
World Cleanup started as a national cleanup day in Estonia in 2008 with 50,000 people joining. The campaign is fully organized and carried out by volunteers – people mobilizing people to share ideas, knowledge and experience, to create networks and to make the world a cleaner place. “This is not just about the nature-lovers, it’s about everyone waking up to the reality that garbage is the largest mistreated resource in the world”, said Rainer Nolvak, one of the action initiators.
