Max & Erma’s to Award Free Cookies for a Year to Cookie Queens and Kings

Drawing to be Held in 22 Cities on April 11 as Restaurant Chain Celebrates Giving Away One Million Cookies During ‘Free Cookies Wednesdays’

COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Since last fall, Max & Erma's has been giving away Erma’s famous fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies to cookie fans or ‘cookietarians’ as it calls them, on Free Cookie Wednesdays, with one special goal in mind: to give away one million cookies.

That day has come and guests are invited to join in the One Millionth Cookie Giveaway celebration on Wednesday, April 11.

“We are calling all cookietarians to join us for a chance to win a whole year’s worth of cookies,” said Steve Weis, Max & Erma’s vice president of Operations.

During the One Millionth Cookie Giveaway celebration, one lucky guest in each restaurant will be crowned cookie queen or king, and will win free cookies for a year. Between the hours of 11 a.m. to noon, guests will have the opportunity to fill out an entry card. A random drawing to pick the cookie queen or king will be held shortly after noon.

Free Cookie Wednesday restaurants are located in Ann Arbor and Detroit, Mich.; Akron, Canton, Chillicothe, Cincinnati (including Northern Kentucky), Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Findlay, Lancaster, Toledo and Wilmington, Ohio; Indianapolis, Ind.; Pittsburgh and Erie, Pa.; Huntington, W.Va.; Aberdeen, S.D.; and Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Va. “Guests tell us that Erma’s cookies really are a very special part of their visit to Max & Erma’s, and we are very proud to have given away one million of them to our cookietarians,” said Weis. “It’s amazing how a cookie, hot out of the oven – especially when it’s free – can put a smile on anybody’s face!”

Free Cookie Wednesdays began at the Max & Erma’s restaurants in Pittsburgh. The idea was so successful that it was expanded to other company-owned and franchise restaurants. Guests who purchased any food item at participating restaurants, including appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts, received two of Erma’s famous fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies for free.

Cookietarians who miss out on the celebration will be happy to know that Free Cookie Wednesday will continue at participating restaurants every Wednesday.
