Former Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard Joins SNR Denton's Public Policy and Regulation Practice

PHOENIX, March 12, 2012 - SNR Denton announced today that Terry Goddard has joined the firm as a senior counsel in its Public Policy and Regulation practice. Goddard previously served as the Arizona attorney general and will reside in SNR Denton's Phoenix office.

Goddard is the third state attorney general to join SNR Denton within the past year. In June 2011, Bill McCollum (Washington, DC), former attorney general of Florida, and Jeff Modisett (Los Angeles), former attorney general of Indiana, joined to lead the firm's State Attorneys General practice.

"The expansion of our State Attorneys General practice has been a priority for the firm, and Terry's record of accomplishment in Arizona will offer significant added depth," said SNR Denton partner Bill McCollum. "We are very pleased to have Terry as the latest member of our growing team, and his experience in public service as a regulator, prosecutor and strategist will bring a wealth of knowledge to our clients," added senior counsel Jeff Modisett, who, with McCollum, leads the firm's State Attorneys General practice.

At SNR Denton, Goddard will advise clients on a full range of matters including consumer protection, financial services, environmental and anti-money laundering issues. He will be part of the firm's State Attorneys General practice, which offers clients a proactive team with direct experience in managing the nuances of an attorney general matter, spotting trends ahead of potential investigations, responding to investigative inquiries and meeting the challenges of litigation where law, policy and politics converge. The practice includes lawyers and professionals with significant experience working in United States state attorneys general offices around the country, including Avi Schick (New York), Ben Weinberg (Chicago), Nick Yost (San Francisco), Dennis Lee (Washington, DC), Joe Colagiovanni (St. Louis), Jack Lawlor (Chicago), Dan Spirn (St. Louis), David Kiefer (Short Hills) and Dan Gibb (Washington, DC), along with colleagues nationally with active practices before attorney general offices.

During his eight year tenure as Arizona attorney general, Goddard led successful prosecutions across a wide range of matters including combating border smuggling and money laundering, protecting consumers and the environment and fighting mortgage fraud. He served as chair of the Council of Western Attorneys General (CWAG), as a member of CWAG's executive committee and as co-chair of the Tobacco Committee for the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG). In 2010, his fellow attorneys general honored his anti-crime successes with the Kelly-Wyman Award, the highest recognition given by NAAG.

Prior to his time as attorney general, Goddard served as both a white-collar criminal prosecutor and the mayor of Phoenix. Goddard was widely regarded as the architect of a range of citizen engagement initiatives, along with urban planning and crime prevention efforts. Goddard also spent seven years as Arizona state director for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. During that time, he was elected to the board of the Central Arizona Water Conservation District, representing Maricopa County, and served as a public member of the board of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco and as a trustee of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Terry served an active duty tour in the US Navy and retired as a commander after 27 years in the Naval Reserves. He has taught graduate courses on urban affairs and other topics at the College of Public Programs and the College of Architecture and Design at Arizona State University and in the National State Attorneys General Program at Columbia Law School.

Goddard received his J.D. from Arizona State University and his B.A. from Harvard College.

"I am pleased to join SNR Denton and look forward to working alongside their top-notch lawyers and professionals," said Goddard.
