Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries Wins 2012 BurgerBusiness Burger Brackets

Poised to Grow By 275 Locations Over Next 6 Years, No. 16 Seed Takes 2012 Burger Bracket

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C., April 4, 2012 // PRNewswire // -- Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries—the well-known and loved '50s-style restaurant chain formerly known as Andy's, famous throughout North Carolina for its hand-pattied cheeseburgers and fresh-made frozen custard—has won the 2012 BurgerBusiness Burger Brackets.

BurgerBusiness.com's third annual March Madness challenge pitted 64 burger brands—representing a mix of big burger chains, small burger chains and indie burger joints—against one another to compete for the title. Fans voted on BurgerBusiness.com for their favorite burger restaurant throughout six rounds of competition, and Hwy 55—ranked as a 16 seed—bested a series of well-known, nationwide brands to take this year's title.

Founded in 1991, the company has grown to more than 100 restaurants across North Carolina. This year Hwy 55 will expand outside of the state for the first time when a franchised location opens in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Myrtle Beach restaurant is the start of a greater plan to open 275 additional restaurants in the southeast over the next 6 to 7 years.

"We are extremely pleased to begin our nationwide expansion with a championship title under our belt," said Kenny Moore, founder and president. "People will see Hwy 55 really take off this year."
