Salt Lake City Area Jamba Juice(R) Franchise Stores Raise More Than $28,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation

Donation Program Raises Breast Cancer Awareness and Much Needed Funds

SALT LAKE CITY, Apr 12, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) --Local Salt Lake City Jamba Juice franchisee operators are proud to announce they raised more than $28,000 for breast cancer awareness and support, thanks primarily to customers who supported an in-store donation program called the "Pink Whirl(TM)" in October 2011. The funds were accepted by Janelle Hail, founder of the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) during a ceremony presided over by the four local Jamba(R) franchise operators responsible for the campaign. This is the first year that area Jamba Juice stores participated in driving an in-store fundraising program for breast cancer and, given the huge outpouring of support from the local community, the store operators plan to continue their participation in NBCF's annual Utah-based fundraising program.

During the "Pink Whirl" campaign last fall, patrons of the participating 18 Salt Lake City area Jamba Juice stores were asked to donate a dollar to NBCF when placing their order. As a thank-you for their donation, guests received a personalized "Pink Whirl" to put on display in the front lobby of their local store and coupons valued at $10 for use on future visits. The funds raised for NBCF were donated on behalf of Jamba Juice to the University of Utah, Huntsman Cancer Center.

"We committed to building healthier communities in the Salt Lake City area and are exceptionally proud to see that commitment benefit others through this year's Pink Whirl breast cancer donation program," said Tara Lindstrom, Director of Marketing, Blended Star, LLC, the Jamba Juice franchisee who led the efforts in Salt Lake City. "It was our goal to work together as a market to raise more than $25,000 for the cause and our customers came through. We are humbled by the gesture of support shown by our local communities and thrilled to present these funds to aid in promoting awareness and the early detection of breast cancer."

NBCF is a not-for-profit organization committed to saving lives through increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms to women in need. Since 2008, the NBCF has funded 442 breast cancer services for underserved women through the University of Utah, Huntsman Cancer Center Institute.

"National Breast Cancer Foundation is grateful and thankful for the support of Utah's Jamba Juice franchisees and the generosity of their customers. We are amazed at the size of the gift," said Janelle Hail, Founder, NBCF. "The funds received helped provide top notch care for underserved women in the Salt Lake region, providing them with essential services in the early detection of breast cancer. There will be women alive this time next year because of this campaign."

In addition to supporting the University of Utah, Huntsman Cancer Institute, NBCF also sponsors awareness programs in Utah through its Early Detection Plan (EDP), an interactive tool to help remind women to detect breast cancer early, and its online social community for breast cancer survivors (www.mynbcf.org). These programs have helped save the lives of countless women in Utah and around the country.

According to NBCF, more than 200,000 women in America will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year - and one fifth of those will die from the disease. One woman in eight has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In addition, more than 1,000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year; the disease will claim nearly half diagnosed. If detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95 percent. Mammograms are among the best early-detection methods, yet 13 million American women over the age of 40 have never had a mammogram. NBCF was recently chosen as the number one breast cancer charity by Charity Navigator and has received Charity Navigator's four star rating for eight consecutive years.
