Entrepreneur Magazine Ranks Kumon No. 1 Education Franchise for the 11th Consecutive Year

TEANECK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kumon, the world’s largest after-school math and reading enrichment company, earned the No. 1 tutoring ranking by Entrepreneur magazine’s 2012 Franchise 500 issue for the 11th consecutive year. The company exceeded industry expectations, growing by 13 percent in the past year and surpassing an enrollment milestone of 336,000 students.

“Our leadership position in the industry is as a result of our highly dedicated franchisees. We are extremely proud of their role in helping North American children experience the benefits of self-learning,” said chief operating officer, Savio Rebelo of Kumon North America. “After 54 years, Kumon is a time-tested learning method to help children reach their maximum potential."

Kumon continues to exceed recruitment records, as more candidates with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and interest in education apply for a Kumon franchise. Between 45-50 percent of new owners are initially customers, who experienced the benefits of the program as Kumon parents. Enrollment at franchise centers is also increasing across the country. Compared to five years ago, center enrollment on average increased from 121 to 160 students.

Kumon’s franchise system offers stability and a model for success. The initial investment to open a center ranges from $69,943 to $147,050. To attend a Kumon Franchise seminar, candidates must prequalify and demonstrate proof of $50,000 in liquid capital and $150,000 in net worth.
