Chevys Fresh Mex Introduces Gluten-free Menu As Part Of Brand Revitalization

National Restaurant Chain Simplifies Gluten-Free Ordering During Celiac Awareness Month

May 21, 2012 // Franchising.com // Union City, Calif. – Chevys Fresh Mex, a national border cantina-style Mexican restaurant chain, announces a new gluten-free menu with entrees and a la carte items that cater to guests with gluten-related disorders. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), as many as one in 133 Americans have Celiac disease and gluten-related disorders continue to increase.

As part of Chevys Fresh Mex pledge, the brand promises all products are made daily from scratch, with freshness as a theme in all dishes. The restaurant chain created its gluten-free guidelines and menus with guidance from Healthy Dining, and instituted a company-wide training to inform team members of proper food handling and accommodations for gluten-free guests. Where possible, Chevys can also modify additional menu items to accommodate guests’ specific dietary needs.

“We’ve been revitalizing our cuisine offerings and approach to customer service based on guest feedback, and we saw the importance of not only providing a variety of gluten-free dishes, but making the ordering process easier for our guests,” said Chevys Fresh Mex President Brian Wright. “We are committed to creating an enjoyable experience for all guests, including those with dietary restrictions.”

Gluten-free menu selections include grande salads like the Shrimp Fajita Salad topped with homemade Apple-Chipotle Vinaigrette; Fresh Mex Fajitas with garlic shrimp or seasonal veggies; classic enchiladas with Original Salsa Chicken or Picadillo Beef; lunch bowls with mesquite-grilled veggies, shrimp or salmon; and a variety of sides and solos including soft tacos, fresh guacamole, rice and beans.

Chevys’ gluten-free menus are available in all 42 corporate restaurants, and locations in Sacramento and New York Times Square offer additional gluten-free menu selections. Preparation facilities vary by location and all guests with gluten-related disorders should inform their server beforehand to ensure that preparation and ingredients align with dietary requirements.
