The Mid-States Group, Multi-Unit Franchisees Of The Greene Turtle, Opens Third Overall Location And Second Restaurant In Two Months

New Annapolis Restaurant is the Second of a Three-Unit Franchise Agreement for Maryland’s Anne Arundel County Held By Same Group Developing Five Locations in Fairfax County, Virginia

June 01, 2012 // Franchising.com // ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The opening of a new Greene Turtle restaurant here last week gave the famous sports bar/casual dining chain its 33rd overall location across Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and Washington, D.C., moving it one-step closer to its goal of reaching 150 units throughout the East over the next several years. It also brought The Mid-States Group, the entity behind the new restaurant, closer to meeting its commitment to develop eight restaurants in Maryland and Virginia.

The franchisee group, whose partners have backgrounds in politics as well as the restaurant and fitness industries, kicked off an aggressive growth plan last fall with its first Greene Turtle restaurant in Pasadena, Md., one of three it has committed to develop in Anne Arundel County. Last month, the group opened a unit in Old Town Fairfax, the first of five it intends to develop in Virginia’s Fairfax County. The new Annapolis site gives the group its second Anne Arundel County site, and a third is scheduled to open this summer in Gambrills, Md.

“We are very excited to be opening our third Greene Turtle restaurant, and share that excitement with the many customers who have eagerly awaited each new location’s launch,” says Mid-States Group Operating Partner James King. “We have great confidence in the concept, and are working diligently to get all the units committed to in our agreements up and running as quickly as possible. We’re also eyeing the possibility of additional units beyond those current commitments.”

In addition to its 33 open restaurants, The Greene Turtle has signed agreements representing another 27 locations. Most recently, a 10-unit deal was secured that will introduce the concept to New York, with sites in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island. Other pending development will introduce The Greene Turtle to Pennsylvania and bring additional locations to Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. The chain has made substantial inroads to Virginia since its debut in Fredericksburg in late 2009, subsequently opening in Chesapeake and Hampton in the southern part of the state and Leesburg, Arlington, Dulles and Fairfax to the north. With a goal to reach 25 to 30 locations statewide, The Greene Turtle is now seeking franchisees in Richmond, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Blacksburg and the Hampton Roads region. In addition, franchise opportunities are available in the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and New England.

Franchise candidates that are willing and able to develop and successfully operate multiple units are of primary interest, according to Tom Finn, Vice President of Franchise Business for the company.

“We’re on a roll,” says Finn. “Qualified multi-unit investors are recognizing the potential of our brand and are signing on to bring The Greene Turtle to more markets throughout the East. We’re eager to speak to prospective franchisees who, like the Mid-States Group, have both the desire and the financial ability to support bigger deals to accelerate the drive to our 150-unit goal.”
