June 06, 2012 // Franchising.com // GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – While summer weather has officially hit West Michigan and the sun is shining outside, there are hundreds of children locally that need your help to brighten their lives. That’s why, for the fourth straight year, participating Biggby Coffee locations in Grand Rapids are teaming up with the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital to help raise money so kids continue to get the absolute best care and treatment they deserve.
For the month of June, you can help by purchasing a “Sunshine Travel Mug” featuring art created by children at the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. Each mug is $9.99 and all proceeds will be donated to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation, which helps provide the highest quality of care to children in Grand Rapids.
“We are excited to partner with Biggby again in the ‘Brightening Lives, One Child at a Time’ mug campaign,” Alyson Dondzila, Development Coordinator for the Spectrum Health Foundation said. “This mug campaign helps to sustain and ensure the growth of existing programs and services available to all children and their families, in our community, regardless of their ability to pay.”
Biggby is hoping to top last year’s mark of more than 1,000 mugs sold, and cannot do it without your help! B involved this June by visiting your favorite Grand Rapids-area Biggby location, picking up your favorite BIGGBY beverage and a special “Sunshine Travel Mug.”
“Being involved in our community and helping to support a cause that everyone can rally around is what being a local business owner is all about,” Tim Hoffman, Biggby store owner and spokesman said. “The Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital has done great things in West Michigan and along with the help of our customers, we are happy to do our part to help brighten lives in Grand Rapids, one child at a time.”

East Lansing, Mich.-based Biggby® Coffee opened a single store in March of 1995 based on the founding principle that coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike would benefit from a less pretentious approach to the standard gourmet café paradigm. Biggby® Coffee introduced connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear and Caramel Marvel, and barista staff surprised guests with simple gestures like free kazoos and bouncy balls for no other reason than to brighten their day. The “Big ‘B’” on the orange background caught on, and today Biggby® Coffee has 150 cafes open or under contract across eight states including: Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Florida and Texas.
