Food Truck Trend Leads to Merging with Custom Concessions
PITTSBURGH, June 7, 2012 // PRNewswire // -- Bruster's Real Ice Cream has acquired a 50% share of Custom Concessions, a manufacturer of mobile kitchen trucks and trailers. The merger went into effect on January 1, 2012, and the headquarters is now located in Pittsburgh.
Bruster's CEO Jim Sahene stated that "mobile kitchens are the fastest growing trend in the foodservice industry, and we are ecstatic about our partnership with Custom Concessions. Their management understands the importance of quality products and outstanding service." According to industry experts, the mobile kitchens category has exploded due to several factors: the recession, low cost of entry, flexibility to test menu concepts and brands able to expand their business beyond their bricks and mortar location.
Custom Concessions founder James Williams stated, "I am thrilled to be teaming up with such a well-managed organization." Williams typically sells about 50 trailers a year, ranging from $10,000 for a simple hot dog trailer to $350,000 for customized full-scale kitchens on wheels. "I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish and look to double our sales in the next year" stated Williams.
The company has built trucks and trailers for well-known brands, including: Texas Roadhouse, Johnny Rockets/Washington Redskins, Disney/ESPN, Dominos Pizza and many others. Mobile units are utilized primarily for food service. However, Custom Concessions has also built them for disaster relief and gaming – with Ultimate Gaming Trailer being a sister partner.
