BalanceDiet™ Company Will Host Free Healthy Lifestyle Seminars for Children and Teens at Southwest Florida Weight Loss Centers

BalanceDiet™ Centers in Fort Myers and St. Petersburg Welcome Children and Teens to Attend Four-Part Seminar Series Focusing on Healthy Nutrition, Activity, and Mindset

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) June 11, 2012 - To help children and teens take the first step toward weight loss and healthy lifestyle choices, BalanceDiet™ Company is pleased to offer a series of free seminars at two locations in Southwest Florida and Tampa Bay. These events, sponsored by Camp BalanceDiet™, are designed to be both fun and educational, and will encourage attendees to adopt healthy eating habits, increase physical activity, and develop a positive mindset.

The Camp BalanceDiet seminars are scheduled for June 22, July 6, July 27, and August 17 from 2-3 p.m. and will take place concurrently at two locations in Southwest and West Central Florida:

  • Fort Myers BalanceDiet Center at: 7370 College Parkway, Suite 207, Fort Myers, FL 33907
  • St. Petersburg BalanceDiet Center at 1700 66th Street N., Suite 405, St. Petersburg, FL 33710

A few of the many topics that will be covered during the seminars are:

  • Pizza Is Not a Food Group, which will present healthier fast food options
  • Lunchbox Lessons, which will explain what items to choose for a great, nutritious lunch
  • Good Morning, which will offer "brain-boosting breakfast ideas"
  • Going Green, which will highlight the health benefits of vegetables

Attendees will also be asked to pick cards from the “Bowl of Goals,” choosing one each from the “Nutrition,” “Activity,” and “Mindset” bowls. This activity is intended to help participants set realistic and achievable goals, while keeping them engaged and motivated on their path to weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

“With many healthcare experts warning of the dangers of today’s childhood obesity epidemic, we felt it was critical to develop a program that is tailored to address the unique needs of children and teens,” explained Pam Powderly, RD, LD/N, Corporate Dietician for BalanceDiet. She cites an American Heart Association report that found one-third of U.S. children and teens are either overweight or obese, and have a 70% to 80% chance of remaining overweight their entire lives.(1) The research also suggests that obesity puts children and teens at increased risk for serious health complications such as heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes.(2)

“Our four-part seminar series will put children and teens on the right track, helping them to make better choices,” said Powderly. “So many people – kids and adults alike – regard nutrition and fitness as a challenge or chore. That’s why we strive to make it easy and fun. With the right education, guidance, and support, children and teens can identify, address, and overcome the habits that are fueling their struggles with weight. We help them to develop more beneficial patterns that promote an optimal healthy lifestyle.”

A BalanceDiet membership is not required to attend the seminars; however, attendees who wish to pursue their weight loss and fitness goals further will have the option to enroll in Camp BalanceDiet – a customized nutrition and healthy lifestyle programdesigned for children and teens ages 9-18 years old, The program is offered at BalanceDiet Centersthroughout Florida or through BalanceDiet At Home, and features menu planning, online tools, and expert tips and tricks from the company’s licensed dieticians and highly trained coaches. Parents who are enrolled in their own 4- or 12-week BalanceDiet program may register their child or teen for Camp BalanceDiet program at no cost; otherwise, the youth program will require a small enrollment fee.

The Camp BalanceDiet seminars are free and open to the public; participants may attend any or all of the four sessions. For more information or to reserve a spot, contact 1-800-WEIGHT-LOSS. When calling to RSVP, please provide attendee name(s), seminar date(s), and choice of location.
