Keller Williams Birmingham Gives Back to Community

The members of Keller Williams Birmingham closed their office for an entire day to volunteer at Pathways, a local Birmingham shelter that provides emergency services for homeless women and children.

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) June 26, 2012 - Every year, on the second Thursday in May, Keller Williams offices across the country spend the day volunteering and improving their community on a day known as Red Day. Each individual market center chooses how they will spend Red Day, and this year, Keller Williams Birmingham spent the entire day painting, cleaning, and improving Pathways. Pathways is a safe haven that not only provides immediate shelter for homeless women and children, but it also provides for their future by teaching life and employment skills.

The decision to volunteer at Pathways was a natural decision for Karen Green, Cultural Ambassador at Keller Williams Birmingham. She explains, “I come from a lovely home of fifteen siblings, and family has always been a priority of mine. I was taught that it is not where you live, but how you live. I provided a home, love, and security for foster kids for over seven years. By doing so, I witnessed the effect of bringing someone into a comfortable, loving environment.” Thus, Green’s vision on Red Day was to create a place of warmness, laughter, and love that could have a lasting effect on someone’s life. As agents, affiliates, and members of the office team repainted fences, bedrooms, and hallways, scoured bathrooms, and gave a complete makeover to the building’s lobby, Green’s vision was achieved. The fresh coat of paint, new furniture, and new décor transformed the room from a worn, drab space into one that inspires cheer, comfort, and hope.

Red Day 2012 was a successful event for everyone involved. Janis Evans, the Volunteer Coordinator and Development Assistant at Pathways, says “Pathways is truly appreciative of the great work performed by KW280! We truly enjoyed being the recipients of the Keller Williams National Red Day project. The generosity and compassion showed by the various KW associates meant so much to all of us at Pathways.”

Although Red Day is only one day out of the year, the spirit of community and giving is continual. As Mark Ozman, an associate with the Indianapolis/Carmel Market Center writes, Red Day “is a one-day expression of what happens 24/7 in the Keller Williams culture.” This is certainly true of the members of Keller Williams Birmingham. As Green explains, “I want to continue to bless the people at Pathways for not only one day, but with the continuation of this project for the rest of the year to provide the needs, safety, and comfort to the families.”
