Dr. Seidler Engberg, also known as “Dr. Kat,” is the new Director of Education at Appleton Learning. In this role, “Dr. Kat” will manage Appleton’s education programs ensuring the programs are of the highest quality. She will also lead the implementation efforts of Appleton education programs company-wide for company-owned branches, franchise partner branches and school partners. Dr. Seidler Engberg has nearly 18 years of teaching experience, both at the college and high school level and is currently working on two multi-volume series. She received her Ph.D. in American Literature from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the Appleton team,” says Dr. Seidler Engberg. “At Appleton I will directly impact the future of education with the ability to create programs and education models that will allow us to move away from traditional educational styles and towards more personalized programs.”

Dr. Philip Kovacs, Monet

Appleton Learning has hired Dr. Kovacs as an education consultant serving as Director of Research and Development. In this new position, Dr. Kovacs will assist Appleton Learning CEO, Glenn Clayton, and the Director of Education in developing new ideas for products, services and improvements to Appleton’s education offerings. Dr. Kovacs earned his Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from Georgia State University in 2006 and is currently teaching teachers at UAHuntsville. Dr. Kovacs was an English teacher and for over a decade has been a vocal proponent for student-centric educational reforms and practices.

He is looking forward to the day when school systems have the freedom and support to move away from educational programs that remain wedded to industrial processes and towards more personalized programs that build off of the strengths that children bring into learning environments.

As for student “weaknesses,” Dr. Kovacs continues, “I prefer the term ‘opportunity for growth,’ as that is what a weakness really is.”
