SNR Denton Strengthens Its Banking and Finance Practice

LONDON, July 12, 2012 - SNR Denton today announced three senior lateral recruitments in banking and finance in its EMEA region.

Matthew Jones, CEO, EMEA at SNR Denton, said: “In our strategic review last year, we identified clear priorities for the business, including continuing to build on our strength and depth in banking and finance. We are delivering on this by adding further high quality capabilities to our team and are delighted to welcome John, Qasim and Jean-Norbert. These appointments are further evidence of our ability to attract lawyers of the highest calibre and our commitment to provide a first class service to our clients”.

John Stansfield will join the Banking and Finance team in Moscow. John is due to join the firm as a partner from Linklaters’ where he spent the last two years as a partner in the Banking and Projects team, of their Moscow office, advising major banks and corporates. Prior to this he spent six years in Linklaters’ Frankfurt office as Head of the English Law banking team in Germany and was also based in Moscow with Linklaters from 1998 and 2000. John is a specialist in international banking acting for lenders, borrowers and sponsors on a broad range of syndicated and secured debt products, with a particular emphasis on emerging markets and structured trade and export financing, acquisition finance, real estate financing and restructurings.

Doran Doeh, Managing Parter in Moscow at SNR Denton, said “We look forward to welcoming John to our team. Not only is John a leading practitioner in his field, he is also fluent in Russian — an obvious benefit in the region. We have no doubt that his skills will be of major interest to a range of current and potential clients.”

Qasim Aslam joins the Dubai office; he has a strong reputation for his experience and expertise in innovative financing structures across Islamic, conventional and multi-sourced financings. He joins from Herbert Smith, where he spent five years in their Dubai office. Qasim’s practice focuses on finance structuring, with an emphasis on Shari'ah compliance, across asset acquisitions, real estate transactions and project finance. Qasim was described as “one of the outstanding practitioners in Islamic Finance” by Guide to the World’s Leading Islamic Finance Practitioners 2010.

"We're very excited about Qasim’s arrival, he brings a broad range of skills to the firm. His addition to the team allows us to expand our banking and finance strength in the region, where we're working on some of the biggest projects for regional and international financial institutions," says Middle East Managing Partner, Michael Kerr.

Jean-Norbert Pontier has joined the Paris office as Avocat au Barreau de Paris. Jean-Norbert was previously a Partner at Nixon Peabody LLP where he spent four years as Head of European Finance. He has advised many underwriters, arrangers, project finance sponsors, senior and mezzanine lenders, real estate debt funds, rating agencies and originators on venture capital, property financing and refinancing, corporate acquisition, and securitization transactions involving a variety of different underlying assets.

Fruman Jacobson, Chief Administrative Officer in Paris at SNR Denton said, “Jean-Norbert enhances our abilities to service our many banking clients in France, both on standalone deals and in transactions governed by the laws of varying jurisdictions. In addition, Jean-Norbert's banking and corporate engagements in the United States build on our American strengths in these areas.”

Since SNR Denton was formed, over 80 partners and senior counsel have joined, strengthening the firm’s global platform.
