Bruegger’s Bagels Named To QSR Magazine’s Top 10 Franchise Deals

Fast Casual Chain Noted for Healthy Culture, Solid Unit Economics

July 27, 2012 // Franchising.com // BURLINGTON, Vt. – QSR Magazine has named Bruegger’s Bagels a top 10 choice for franchisees looking for concepts that deliver a recipe for success, including “favorable sales-to-investment ratios, unique market niches, positive sales trends, and formidable corporate support.”

Bruegger’s, with 300-plus locations in the U.S., was the only bakery-café concept recognized by the respected trade publication of the quick service industry. QSR noted Bruegger’s strong sales-to-investment ratio, based on the 2011 average unit volume of approximately $725,000. The magazine attributed strong unit success to factors such as ongoing franchisee support by regional operations consultants and a dedicated marketing team focused on local awareness.

David Omholt, CEO of Texas-based Entrepreneur Authority and an expert cited by QSR, went on to praise Bruegger’s for its “healthy culture and ‘solid’ unit economics that propel systemwide success.”

“Bruegger’s is continually looking to expand in a way that benefits the brand, our guests and our franchisees,” said Vice President of Franchise Development Chris Cheek of Bruegger’s parent company, Le Duff America Inc. “For continued franchise growth, we strive to provide a unit-level economic model that is deemed a good investment along with providing continuous franchisee support and coaching.”

Bruegger’s is the only bagel bakery chain in the country that fresh-bakes New York style bagels in each of its locations, using the same recipe developed nearly 30 years ago by the company founders. The growing chain is open for breakfast and lunch and offers a wide range of items from breakfast sandwiches to soups, salads and an Under 500 Calorie Menu.

Since 2011, Bruegger’s franchisees have opened bakeries in new and existing markets, including Atlanta, Austin, Louisville, Phoenix and Danbury, Conn. The popular bakery-café chain began franchising in 1993 and continues to actively pursue new franchisees and support their growth. About one-third of its locations are franchise-owned, including two of its airport locations.

In addition to its nod from QSR, Franchise Business Review (FBR) recently ranked Bruegger’s in the top 50 franchise opportunities in the large systems category. The rankings, announced in February 2012, are based on ratings given by Bruegger’s current franchisees, indicating overall satisfaction in the experience. Bruegger’s was also recognized by FBR as a top franchise based on the overall financial investment.
