Taft Partner Julia Meister Appointed Ethics and Malpractice Committee Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association

Meister, a partner in Taft Stettinius & Hollister’s Cincinnati office, has been appointed Ethics and Malpractice Committee Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Real Property Trust and Estate Law Section. The ABA Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law is a leading national forum for lawyers, with nearly 25,000 members. The Ethics and Malpractice Committee evaluates the potential liabilities of the estate lawyer, assess insurance or other methods of financial protection for the practitioner, and focuses on the changing developments in ethical rules. Ms. Meister’s term begins September 1, 2012.

Julia Meister is a partner in Taft's Litigation, Health & Life Sciences, and Private Client Practice Groups and heads the firm's Cincinnati Estates Trusts and Fiduciary Litigation practice. She counsels clients and represents them in commercial and estate, guardianship, trust and fiduciary matters and professional ethics and discipline matters before courts, administrative tribunals, and arbitrators.

Ms. Meister is an elected fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. She is recognized in Best Lawyers in America in four practice areas: Commercial Litigation; Litigation - Banking & Finance; Litigation - Trusts & Estates; and Trusts and Estates. She is an appointed member of the Ohio State Bar Association's Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section Council and serves on several committees of the Section Council, including Guardianships, Jury Instructions, and the Ohio Trust Code. She chairs the OSBA’s 2012 Pliskin Advanced Estate Planning Seminar and has recently served on the Ohio Supreme Court's Summit on Aging Planning Committee, raising awareness of financial and other forms of elder abuse.

Ms. Meister graduated with honors from Xavier University in 1991 and the Notre Dame Law School in 1995. She has worked in administration at the Notre Dame Law School and served as an adjunct professor at the University of Dayton Law School. Ms. Meister was named one of the Cincinnati Business Courier's Forty Under Forty emerging leaders and has been recognized in multiple years by Cincinnati Magazine as a Super Lawyers Rising Star and by the YWCA Academy of Career Women of Achievement as a Rising Star. Ms. Meister is honored as a 2012 Ohio Super Lawyer for Business Litigation. She is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s Confidential Judicial Evaluation Committee and is past chair of its Admissions Committee. Ms. Meister currently serves as vice president and trustee of the Cincinnati Opera Association and president of the Cincinnati Area Senior Services Board of Directors.
