At 27, She Turned a VooDoo BBQ Franchise Around

Randi Hill Became a Top-Performing Franchise Owner in Growing System by Working Hard, Following Plan

NEW ORLEANS, LA - (Marketwire - Aug 28, 2012) - Randi Hill began running the VooDoo BBQ & Grill location just off Interstate 12 in Denham Springs, La., in January, after she and her stepfather teamed up to buy the struggling location.

It's struggling no more. In eight months, Hill has turned the Denham Springs location into one of the fast-growing franchise system's top performers. She's had enough success there to recently purchase another franchise license to open a second location, this one in Ascension Parish.

"I just got out in the community, doing everything from putting fliers on people's doors, on windshields, going out in the parking lot at Wal-Mart and handing out coupons," Hill said. "Just getting out there and saying, 'Hey, come try us out,' then serving great food in a fun atmosphere to keep them coming back."

When Hill signed up, she and her stepfather, Greg Walters, a Thibodaux financial planner, had a loose plan to expand by one restaurant per year for as many as seven years. They're ahead of schedule. This month, the two purchased another franchise license and plan to open the new VooDoo location by the third quarter of next year, probably in Gonzales.

"Anything I do, I try to do my best and be the best at it," Hill said. "I've really enjoyed being able to turn this restaurant around and see people enjoying it, even the employees. This one girl who works for me, she used to be real shy, and she's way more confident and mature now. She has work skills, and she understands that in order to accomplish something, you have to work for it. That's fulfilling to me."
