Boston Pizza Delivers $300,000 with Annual Employee Scholarship Program

Awards 33 Employees with Scholarships for the Upcoming School Year

August 23, 2012, Toronto, ON – With the upcoming school year set to begin, Boston Pizza proudly announced the recipients of 33 post-secondary scholarships awarded to restaurant employees across the country.

“Boston Pizza is proud to help our employees realize their academic goals through our popular scholarship program,” said Caroline Schein, Vice President, People and Operations Development, Boston Pizza International. “Through this program, we are able to support our employees’ pursuit of a post-secondary education while also keeping them with us as they learn valuable life skills working in our restaurants.”

Since 2007, the Boston Pizza International Scholarship Program has recognized 201 employees for their achievements at work and school, as well as within their local communities, with a $1,500 scholarship each. This year 33 scholarships were awarded to Boston Pizza employees across Canada for a total of $49,500.

Eligible applicants are subjected to a rigorous evaluation process that involves an academic review based on actual transcripts, an internal evaluation from their General Manager, and a personal essay submission. A national scholarship committee evaluates the submissions and helps select the deserving recipients.

“Boston Pizza is one of the largest youth employers in Canada and we believe in encouraging continued education and development of our employees,” explained Schein. “We are proud to have awarded more than $300,000 since the program began six years ago.”

“I cannot begin to explain how much it means to me to be chosen among the so many worthy applicants. Boston Pizza has played a huge role in many aspects of my life and has given me many opportunities to succeed in school, work and athletics,” says 2012 scholarship award winner Logan Madill from Boston Pizza’s Collingwood location. “Financially, this award is going to make a huge difference in my post-secondary education at McMaster University.”

This year, Boston Pizza also launched a scholarship program to support the dependent children of corporate employees. Three $1,500 scholarships were awarded in the first year of this initiative.
